Sat in the new Mercedes M class at the NY auto show, and must say (not a big SUV fan) its quite nice. If you want nice interior build, this is the one to go with. The v6 verision starts around 39, and the full blown v8 floats the high 40s, low 50s from what I believe.) A bit pricey, but they are nice.

Tigster, if you've got an 8 and you go to the Escalade, I think you're going to be kind of afraid of it. I know I was when I drove it at the Auto Show in Motion. I felt like I had no control over where the car was actually going, only which general direction it was pointed. Not something I'd want to pile my family in and send rocketing down the interstate. If I absolutely HAD to get an suv, I'd get an X3 or an X5. However, since I really dislike trucks, I'd more likely be looking at things like the Magnum or the Audi S4 wagon (forget what it's called) for my hauling/towing needs.

We just got an invitation to attend a private driving of the new Mercedes M class suv, at the executive airport so I may have to check that out. The boat is about 3,000 lbs so most of these suv's should work. Hopefully we will get something in the next few weeks. I am not in that big of a hurry, her truck is a 2004 and only has 22,000 miles but we both want something new. I will let you know what we find.
Unless you're really going to use all that room, you might want to look at the Aviator instead of the Navigator...
