The EVO and STI are true 4-door sedans that have AWD and turbo I4 engines. The RX8 is a sports coupe which is meets the minimum requirements of being a "4-door", it is RWD and has a ultra rare 2-rotor engine. The EVO and STI are cars for people that wanted a streetable WRC car. The RX8 is a unique beauty which really has no equal. We might as well compare a Typhoon to the RX8.....it also has AWD and a turbo.
That's what I've been trying to tell them. They think I'm a snob. I insult them, they insult me. Time to lay down the wooden sword fellows and grow up.

8 SCCA Rally Manufacturer's Championships, not all in GTX's. A few driver's titles in there as well. Overshadowed by Mazda's IMSA successes yes, but far from just 'participating' in some rally racing. SCCA Titles might not be as illustrious as a WRC title, but they don't just hand them out.

To my knowledge they were all works rides with minimal support from Mazda. They weren't fully backed Mazda cars, but correct me if I'm wrong. Also, SCCA titles aren't as illustrious as just about every other rally series, not just the WRC I still love SCCA pro rally though, and any other form of rally for that matter.

I don't think any of us think you're a snob. We think a lot of other things about you, but snob doesn't come to mind. If anyone needs to grow up it's yourself, especially after your little outburst the other night. Most of us are trying to talk about cars in here, you're just trying to stir up **** with your ignorant ramblings.

Yeah right,
I made alot of points that were reflected in other posts by impartial members. We can't all be ignorant. You can't discount others just because they don't share your view. If your choice of car is right, for you, then naturally you'll gravitate to like choices same as me. Noone here is ignorant. We all know and like our cars. Your going to get some crap from loyal rx8 members. You have to expect it when you troll in an EVo.

When it comes to the Evo and STI you are horribly ignorant, I know it and so do many many of those loyal RX-8 owners on this forum. There's a difference between knowing you made the right choice in cars and mindlessly bashing another car and its owners.

he's talking about a post way back with me saying "who is dumb enough to put an inferior engine like the 13brew in the rx8"

I was referring to the fact that Mazda cars do have a successful rally heritage beyond that of the 323, with Millen being involved in many of them. He's a hell of a rally driver as well, won't speak for the drifting skill as I do not know. As far as the 13brew being inferior, how do you support this? One drift team losing a couple of motors? How can you tell if it is an inherent design flaw or if the engine supplier/builder is doing an inferior job? Or is this one of those I-read-it-on-the-internet-so-it-must-be-true kind of deals?

As far as STI vs. Rx8- The STI is a hell of a car, haven't driven one yet but got driven around the evo course by one of the instructors, good grip, good acceleration, didn't feel like it was pushing too much but I was in the back seat and couldn't watch his left foot. Very impressive. From my experience trying to chase a well driven STI in a (stock) PAXed Street Tire class, both of us on OE rubber, the awd is a definite advantage.

A few things scare me about owning one of the rally cars, watching people have to do clutch drops from the stratosphere to launch the thing is one of them. You have to abuse it to launch it, I constantly expect to hear a crunch followed by the tinkle tinkle of broken bits hitting the ground. Subaru and most definitely Mitsu have gained a reputation recently by voiding warranties for participating in timed events. While this is not to say that Mazda wouldn't do the same, I personally feel given my experiences that they are much less likely to do so, even given the examples that have been discussed here. Besides, if you break it at an event, it is most likely your fault, and I'm much less likely to break the driveline on the 8 imo than I would be in a STEVO. All are very cool vehicles, it's a neat time to be a car guy.

Yea I drove a regular WRX (2006) and a RX8 (2005) before buying the Rx8, and the speed was quite impressive did have a very large kick too it. However i was having a terrible time getting it in to gear. It was the most un smoooth shifts I had ever experienced with any car. Old Audi, Acura, Old BMW, New BMW, Rx8 all have amazingly better shifts then the WRX. That was a large reason why I couldn't get the car, and then there's others...

Are you sure you drove an '06? Regardless I like my shifts a little notchy and the WRX has always been that way (less so in the '06), if I wanted buttery smooth shifts I'd buy a luxury car. Also, the STI tranny and the WRX tranny are totally different.

^^^are we talking about a stock 13brew or a modified one? Cause I'll take a well tuned single turbo 13brew then the renesis. Then again, if I'm going to swap the renesis, I'd go 20b.

With the torque that the sti/evo make, you couldn't have it any other way. low torque cars like the s2k and rx8 can afford to have smooth trannies.

The point is, when it's built right it will run reliably. Build it wrong and it won't. Care and treatment obviously has great influence into the longevity of the engine. Rev the **** out of a cold rotary everyday, turbo or no, and see how long it lasts. What if they forgot to flush the oil cooler lines or didn't do it well enough, sucking a chunk of exploded apex seal back through the motor probably wouldn't be a good thing. There are many variables to consider before passing a blanket judgement on an engine or manufacturer.
