on this week's autoweek magazine, the evoX is the cover story. and its confirmed that the concept is like almost the finalized design.

i wonder how long before someone comes in and says, "even mitsubishi wants to be like the rx8"

That was a good read. I like the history of the Evo at the end. So I guess that prototype is pretty close to the real version like you said. If it has the kind of power and throttle response they're claiming then I'll learn to love it...no matter how it looks. I think it was C&D that called the Evo VIII a pig in a track suit, so it shouldn't be hard to improve the looks. The interior looks a little better too. I wonder how detuned the American version will be?

I believe what will become the EVO X's regular counterpart has already made its debut at the Frankfurt Auto show this past September. Known as the "Concept Sportback", it looks just as radical.

from that angle it looks pretty good to me, but im biased toward sporty looking cars. but its definetly not ugly to me, i guess it might succeed as a youth oriented alternative to the civic, corola, sentra etc.

I am hoping the Sportback gets the same EVO treatment. So there will be an EVO sedan and an EVO hatch. I would choose the hatch hands down. Sexy machine that is.

Agreed, and I think they might actually do that too.

Have you guys seen the new Evo IX wagon that just went on sale in Japan. My wife actually really wants one. I would gladly trade in her Nissan Xterra for something that gets better gas mileage and hauls ***. Check out Edmunds review of their test drive...

And a video of it doing some crazy stuff at a Mistubishi sponsored launch event...

Sure have. Saw one in a Mitsubishi Showroom at Shinagawa Station and I checked out a white Evo Wagon at the Tokyo Motorshow. Too bad it was auto. But it did have leather interior and looked pretty badass. I'd buy one.

But I'm loving the look of the Evo X... can't wait to see what the interior will really look like and the final exterior.

Not only did it look pretty mean, but it had RWD, a hemi V8, etc, etc. When it finally was released it combined the great handling of a minivan with all the power of a base model Neon...and it looked sorta stupid IMHO.
Don't really know, but there are pics of a test mule/prototype with that same body being run on a test track.

Between this, the Sportback and JDM mags... I'd say this is pretty close to the production design.

Why wouldn't that front end pass US crash standards?

I think the US and Canada have come together on a requirement that mandates all vehicles must sustain zero frontal damage at an impact of less than 5mph...err something like that.

So the Evo wagon you saw had leather and auto? What was the price in USD? Unfortunately it'll have to be an auto if my wife gets one, but an AT Evo Wagon is still better than an SUV to me at least

I'll definitely agree with you there, I hate those roadhogs. I'm partial to hatchbacks myself. That'd be bad as Hell.

In addition to all this, I've heard rumblings that the Evo X will come with 330 HP, and that the MR edition will carry 400 HP. This rumor seems tangible since Mitsu has been selling 330/400 horsepower versions of the Evo in Europe under the FQ model designation.

A 400hp Evo on the streets of the US? Look out Vette!

I believe the FQ400 uses a bigger turbo than the factory 16g. Not sure about the other FQ models though. Right now it's tough to squeeze anymore than 400whp out of the stock turbo. I know that some of the aftermarkets companies have done it with nitrous oxide or by running a supercharger AND turbocharger. I'm wondering if MIVEC will increase the power potential of the stock turbo though.

From personal experience, I sold my 21 psi 4G63 last month when it had 167,000 miles on it. I bought the Eclipse GS-T new in 1995.

No problems except a leaky rear window. I dont think the psi affected the window much but then again perhaps that PTE SCM-50 inhaled oxygen so fast that it placed a repetitive transient negative air pressure on the outside of the car and eventually weakened the exterior window sealant and hence the water leak :p

19+ psi since 2003. In any case the motor proved still strong enough at 167000 miles (not Kilos, i am talking American miles) to impress the candidate buyer enough to in fact convince him to hand over the cash I was asking for it after I took him for a ride. We smoked the tires through 55 mph. He was in awe. FWD is quite good for giggles and sh*ts if not traction.

If there is one thing the Mitsu 4G63 motor is good for, it is durable power.

I sold it because ten years of anything every day is more than enough. I wanted another car in my life before I got too old to 'go around the block' with another car. In case you were wondering. And my driveway is too small for four cars. It had nothing at all to do with the car itself. I wasnt even actively selling it. The buyer found the car through word of mouth.
