i thought that!! and still do ... with an adjustment - old mr2 (1st and 2nd gen) = bad ***. last gen (3rd gen) mr2 - you gotta be kidding me. not only do i only see chicks driving it, it's fugly!!! absolutely hideous now, just like all toyotas. and the 3rd gen came with like 138 hp or something!

and if those pictures don't support my point ... i'm at a loss.

An overweight Grand Cherokee that looks like a fancy tool shed. Add that to the fact that the only people I know that have them are women...

In general, a car where it doesn't matter how awful it is to drive, as long as it makes the driver think they look good.

Escalades (why do so many women love huge trucks? I just don't get it...)

VW Cabrios

Sunfires

Of course, these are all crap over generalizations, but I'm sure everyone figured that out.

The 3rd Gen MR2 had 134 BHP but only weighed about 2300 pounds and was very cheap. Now, you wouldn't call an Elise a "Chick Car", would you?

This is exactly why the term "chick car" is retarded. Chicks love the RX-8 as much as they love the Eclipse Spyder. Yet somehow the RX-8 is only for "enthusiasts".

Here's a thought -- don't worry about whether a car is a "chick car" or not and you won't have to worry about a definition. Drive what you want -- even if it's a Crossfire.

Errrrr, no. A chick car is a car where STYLING takes precedence over PERFORMANCE.

Soooo, the RX8 was designed to be a balanced road carver (good) and it is....
The Mustang GT/Cobra was designed to be a tire destroying pony car and it is....
The Mustang V6 is designed for people who like the look of the Stang, but don't care that it is NOT a tire shredding pony car, less gas, lower ins, etc... = chick car.
The Prowler is designed to LOOK like a retro hi boy roadster... but it does not have the ***** of an old hi boy hotrod roadster....chick car
The H3 is for people who like the big tough manly LOOK of a HMMV, but want to be comfy, $$$, gas, and don't care about 4WD cause they won't do it... chick car.

Need I go on?

umm, not so good analogy. the elise is less than 2000 lbs, and has something like 190 hp. shaveing 400-500 lbs AND adding 60 hp means there's no comparison. also, take into account how the elise handles vs the 3rd gen mr2...

Kane said it best - when styling precedes performance - no amount of styling would effect the elise - i think it's ugly, but i'd still get one b/c of its performance.

I saw a Smart Car at the gas station over the weekend. Picture something the size of an ice cream truck, and = chick car. It's very possible to push it over from the looks of it.

I think post #4 is right. chick car = mostly females driving them.

Take the Boxster: meat heads say "poor man's 911"; enthusiasts say "driver's car"; either way a LOT of them are driven by women.

or the Miata for that matter, it's a good car in its own right, but a lot of lady drivers

Now if the 8 was a more "conventionally" powered car I would agree. But the fact that the 8 requires more attention to details and NEEDS to be driven hard (at least once in a while) negates any "chick car" points.

Lets put it this way:

Would you recommend the 8 to women (or guys for that matter) who don't even know how change their own oil?

But to the same guy or gal would you recommend something like say a RAV 4 or some other less maintenance intensive car?

I'd say close to or maybe even more than half the RX-8s I see are driven by women.

I disagree. A car can't be considered a chick car just because there's a higher powered version of it. The base model Mustang is a (relatively) cheap rear-wheel drive coupe -- something 90% of the people on this forum clamor for constantly. Just because someone doesn't want to drop the coin for a GT doesn't prove anything. Maybe they wanted a 15.3 sec 1/4 mile car for $20k -- nothing wrong with that. By your logic a Porsche 911 is a chick car because there's a 911 Turbo. If anything, the word you're describing is poseur car -- not chick car.

The only possible definition has to be a car that is owned primarily by females. People who try to use the term to designate cars that are more about style than performance are incredibly narrow-minded and hypocritical. Every single person on here talks about how ugly the Evo is compared to the 8 because that's the ONLY thing the 8 does better than the Evo. Yet, somehow because the 8 meets the "minimum" requirements for performance in your eyes it's not considered a chick car.

Whether it's style, handling, straight line speed, amenities, etc they all cost money. Some people value certain categories more than others. Anyone with an RX-8 who sits in judgment of someone else buying a car that's heavy on the looks and light on the performance is just as moronic as the 350Z owner who looks down on the RX-8 owner because of the lack of torque and woeful mileage. Everyone needs to grow up and have fun driving their car rather than worrying about emasculating a person for making a choice about a freakin car.

chick car is just any car with a significantly higher than normal ratio of female drivers, a lot of sporty cars falls into that category because chicks tend to dig sporty looking cars.

RX8 is a chick car, most RX8 I see on the road are driven by women, and most likely automatic version. get over it already. Z, G35, Miata, Mustang, Eclipse, Jetta, all seem to have a higher than normal ratio of female drivers. not the s2000 though likely due to that its only available in manual.
