And some club members here think the Mazda RX-8 is expensive to repair or dare I say even unreliable?

The price of those services is completely ridiculous. If the man was mechanically inclined at all, and wasn't afraid of doing the work on his Ferrari himself he could of easily cut a gigantic chunk out of that cost!

I owned several porsches and had the same experience. I drove a bit more than the ferrari owner since they were all daily drivers, but as they aged, between the 993 and the 994, I had AC failures, automatic window motors die, rack and pinion steering issues, random bushings needing to be replaced. It was rare that I didn't go a month without something needing to be taken care of. Usually the bill was under $300, but sometimes it was >$1000. I never had engine problems with them though. I sold the 993 while it was still in good shape. The 944 I didn't luck out on. The transmission died on me and I offloaded the car for basically nothing.

In a way I miss them, but after doing that for years, I don't think I'll buy another.

The way you have to look at it is on a scale. If your car costs 10x more than a standard car, then if your 15,000 mile checkup costs 10x more, isn't that what you should expect?

+1 If you can afford to spend 100k on a car, and are concerned of maintenance, (Not warranty failure). Then you probably shouldn't be spending 100+k on a car.

On the other hand, If you spend 6 figures on a car, I'd kind of want it to be good enough that it doesn't constantly break down. Sure I'd be rich enough to afford the repairs but thats not the damn point.

You might think that, but in reality most supercars come with a 2 year warranty. You're getting off with a Kia if you want a care free experience.
