?'s about Rolex 24 at Daytona

Hi all,

I know a lot of you follow the Grand Am series. Since I live in Orlando, some friends and I were throwing around the idea of checking out the Rolex 24 this year. I have some questions about the race and searched the forum but couldn't find the answers I was looking for. I've been to a couple ALMS races but they were all the less than three hour type.

1) I saw some talk on the forum about a Mazda corral at the race but haven't been able to find how to buy tickets for it. Also, does the Mazda corral provide anything besides tickets, parking, and swag? It's $5 more than a standard 2-day infield/grandstand ticket and we're probably not going to get there until Sat morning.

2) BYOB - can I bring my own cooler to the race?

3) Related to 2 - A few of my friends aren't big into racing but they heard somehow that there was a good party atmosphere at night during the race. Can anybody attest to this? They would probably only go if this were true.

4) I don't need to pay any money for camping for the night of the race, true? Can I bring lawn chairs and such to relax in?

That's all I can think of for now. I apologize if these were already answered on the forum, I just couldn't find them anywhere (search fail).

TIA!

Marlun, who leads the Corral, will have events scheduled during the day. These can include prize drawing, Q&A sessions with Mazda team drivers, etc.

Yes, the only place where there are restrictions are taking things to the stands. (like large umbrellas)

3) Related to 2 - A few of my friends aren't big into racing but they heard somehow that there was a good party atmosphere at night during the race. Can anybody attest to this? They would probably only go if this were true.
If it's not too cold and wet like last year, yes.

4) I don't need to pay any money for camping for the night of the race, true? Can I bring lawn chairs and such to relax in?
Yes, the designated rows closest to the track are pay spots. The rest are free. First come, first served. There should be a designated area for Mazda Corral camping too.

That's all I can think of for now. I apologize if these were already answered on the forum, I just couldn't find them anywhere (search fail).

My answers are embedded above in red.
I've been to two of the 24 hrs races now (2007 & 2010). I will not be down this year. It's just too damn far (16-18 hr drive). If there's an autograph session, the line for Dempsey Racing will be the longest and forms early. Plan on getting in that line at least 45 min. it's scheduled start.

It's about the same distance for you to Daytona as it is for me.

The trip there isn't much of a problem. Your hyper with anticipation. It's the trip home that's the problem. The first time I got sleepy somewhere north of Indianapolis. I found talk radio will help wake you up. This past Feb, it didn't help as well. I almost ran into the back of a charter bus in Gary, IN.

Thanks Alnielsen! Don't know if they sold out on the Mazda Car Corral club tickets, but I don't see them listed.
I got my corporate discount ticket package through my job.

I will continue to try and get my contacts to help us out. Also, I am working on a huge VIR Package with Freedom Autosports, Mazdaspeed Motorsports and Mazda USA as well.
The answer is in the Corrals thread. Since you already have your tickets, this is mainly for others that will be attending.

Have Fun and we pray for nice weather.

Yeah, it's things like that which make me scared to drive long distances. I have problems with 6 hour drives!! :O

Daytona, for me is a 16-18 hr trip. After last years race, I went down to the Ft. Lauderdale area to visit friends for a couple of days, before driving home. Coming back was almost 20 hrs of driving without a rest.
