i am gonna have it dyno's this friday when the car is done, but i was planning on getting an HKS F-con fuel management system because the greddy e-manage sucks. what do you recommend, is their anyway i can change the rotor and get more hp, or what else i can do besides turbo, i have the turbo already. Will bigger intercooler be better? headers?

so you're turbo'd and want to know if headers will help you? anyways a bigger intercooler isn't needed. You can get the lightweight rotors from Racing Beat or go with a street port. Just have to find a place that will do it and I'm thinking it's not cheap. Go with a lightweight flywheel and better clutch too. Umm yeah Race your friend from about a 30 roll and see if he pulls you. You probaly wont be able to take him from a dig since he's awd. Take both of your cars to a drag strip and see what the results are.

Hate to burst everyone's bubble, a RX-8 can't beat an EVO9 or STI in terms of performance stock wise or lightly modded. Its fast in corners but that doesn't mean the other two is slow either, however I know a lot of proud RX-8 owners here bought the car because somehow they realise:

1. Straight line performance means nothing as much as corner carving to them
2. Being a better driver is more satisfying than being in a fast car
3. Grunt matters little when tracking, balance matters
4. Happy to be the underdog

By the way this thread sucks!!!

I don't understand something...as much of a newb as I am regarding mods and the details of engines, it does not take much to realize that the EVO has a 1-1.3 sec advantage in 0-60 & 1/4 mile times.

EVO 286HP (If I remember right) stock plus AWD and much more torque
RX8 238HP (debated) stock

For you to beat that car you will need to mod the heck out of the RX8, you should be able to match or beat the EVO with 100 more HP but yes you still will need to know how to run the 8 to get the most use of added HP.

NOTE: Street racing is not allowed here...so we all assume you are on a track

BUT....who cares? How old are you man? There will always be another car out there that is faster and in the end of the day...neither I nor 99% of the US population gives a heck what times...what cars get. The RX8 is plenty fast for the "real world" and even then you won't be using most of the power 95% of the time. Check out the "little things" thread if you need to remember the quality car the RX8 is and it only takes a test drive...or owning the car to realize how special of a car the RX8 is. Gosh, if Mazda gives it another 100HP the RX8 might be the bang for your buck best all around sports car there is. (opinion but read the mag's to learn what most "car people" say about the RX8)

So again I say, who cares? Gosh...don't take this the wrong way, but grow up man and worry about more important things like bettering yourself...your character, instead of caring what your friend drives. Oh yeah, if your so called "friend" is ragging on your car...maybe he aint your friend after all.

By the way...with all do respect to the EVO (one fast little sucker costing 30K and with AWD)...it's BUTT ugly compared to a RX8...toss in there the WRX and STI. I know looks are subjective...but at least in regards to looks those cars can't touch the RX8...in my, and most people's opinion.

A turbo RX-8, if done properly, should easily beat a stock Evo, 8 or 9 since an evo will put down 225-35whp on average and they are slightly heavier cars. If you want pure performance, you need to get an RX-7 turbo II or an FD. The FD especially will outhandle and outperform any evo with light to no mods.

Big HP is for Drag Racing

If you want to drag race, you have chosen the wrong car. Sure you can make it a drag racer (Turbo, NOS), but why? If you want a high torque drag racer, go American with a big v8 or v10. If you really want to go fast, get a Suzuki Hayabusa, GSXR 1000, Kawasaki ZX12 or ZX10. Any of these stock bikes will outperform just about every every street car.

Cheers,

Alex

Like I said I can probaly hang with a stock evo if not pull him from a roll, but if you start modding the evo then I'm not even going to waste the gas and rubber just to get beat. My friend has an evo8, spent $1000 and now dynos around 410 on the ground. I spent $4000+ and got maybe 270 on the ground. The 8 by no means is a straight line monster. I plan on getting a 2nd gen turbo II rx-7 aound the summer of next year and I'm going to build that car for the strip. I local guy has one that is very slightly modded that is running high 7 sec 1/8.

You cant just bolt on a bunch of parts and be faster.....you have to tune the car to work with all the parts. That setup will definetly give you enough power to deal with a evo from a roll, if you tune it correctly....and that is the real problem with this car, tuning.

You seem to be all about speed....so why did you buy a car that is all about handling and response? Did you just want to get the RX8 and make it something else? It sounds like you bought the wrong car...this isnt a drag car, and it isnt about power.....its about control and handling....oh well

also :
"It is very shameful to know that the rx8 is the worst sports car made that has no torque what so ever."
did you test drive the car? did you know it has a rotary engine? did you read up on the car? did you read up on the engine?

30k dollars is a lot of money to spend on something you seem to know little about.

you also seem to know little about cars. just cause a turbo can make 330hp doesnt mean it will. Also you can throw all the money in the world at the RX8 and get it to beat a stock EVO, but then your 10k into your car with all these parts....and the evo is stock.......once the evo does the same mods....it will be faster and again youll lose.

The faster car is always faster, given equal mods.

IMO : you should get rid of the rx8 and invest all your money in a differnt car, with more potential for speed....

I've been in a ~300whp Evo, and while very fast, it was by no means insurmountable. I see no reason why an RX-8 cannot be faster, it will however cost more money to do so. The EVO is basically an out of the box track car like the FD was and because of the OEM components very easy to mod. The RX-8 will take more coaxing, but I think has the potential to be everything the EVO is and more when it comes to the track and cornering prowess.

As for straightline acceleration, if that's what you want get a LS1 powered Camaro, put some money into it and ask the EVO owner how your taillights look.

I think most people know this.

If you want to beat an EVO, you either have to
1) put a very sizable chunk of money in mods with a car with good after market support (which the 8 doesn't have yet, if ever).
2) an STi
3) another Evo
4) A $50K+ car like an M3 or S4 or something.
5) be a great driver and the Evo driver has to suck

seriously... the rx-8 is hardly slow, but it IS slower than it's competition in a straight line. accept that, get a new car, or wait for good aftermarket parts and hope some do come out.

personally for me, i didn't buy my car to race people. i bought it for the looks and the performance was a huge upgrade for me.
