It's photoshop! Autobild often posts photoshops posing as spyphotos.
I'm 99% certain Mazda would not design the front end of the next Miata to be an almost exact duplicate of the RX-8. The next MX-5 is scheduled for its debut at the 75th International Motor Show in Geneva, Mar.3-13. So we'll know soon enough.

I do agree with you that the photo is not the next Miata and just a photoshop.

In addition, the rear shot shows the tail lights to be non-matching. Take a look at the red/silver-centered one.. Anyhow, it's most definitely a composite published for illustrative purposes. A good handful of the photos that end up in American car magazines like R&T and C&D are actually artist renditions.

1) The bold text belongs to the upper (only partly visible) picture, which probably shows a Toyota study with mid-engine. It has nothing to do with the "new Miata".
2) The other text belongs to the "new Miata" and the picture is chopped, driver mirror, rear lights and right headlight look doctored.
I found some similar pictures though:

Agreed.
BMW is well known for always underestimating their cars on purpose.
My old 2004 330 Coupe 6spd was rated by BMW @ 6.4 for 0-60mph.
I clocked a 5.8 in it.
As goes for HP. BMWs 225HP "feels" equivalent to 260-270 from anybody else?

What I like the most in the article is the sentence where they say that "there is a bit of an RX-8 grinning in the front"... yeah right, a little bit... kinda :D

I saw half of the car on the last motor week on speed channel yersterday . The car color was a dark shine blue . the guy from the show was talking about next week cars and he was standing next to it . Watch the show and you will see it at the end of the show.

unfortunately, the rx-8's rep began to wane when Mazda screw up with the hp numbers and what with the silly alphabet soup flashes. It reminds me of my ECS motherboard that requires new BIOS flash to keep it going.....

I think that last picture posted by wolverine is the closest we're going to see until the unveil it. Me thinks its going to have a similar plastic lip and headlight styling (the 6 had similar headlights to the 8... just not as aggressive). From there the grill should look identical to the picture and the openings where the fog lights are will be more rounded rectangles then the aggressive styling on the 8. No idea with the hood though... probably that ugly round thing like on all the other photos.
