i'm with rotten42, my glass is half full because i drive the car i wanted.......and i can't wipe that silly grin off my face while driving it. i've had a miata and it was kewl, but i never had the silly grin.

look at the hood.....it's round, all mazda cars have hoods which have corners. as i've said about many things, i'll believe this is a real car when i see it at the dealer.

i think it's great mazda makes more than just one car which makes the heart pulse and makes adrenalin flow just by looking at it.

126 PS x .9863 = 124.2738 HP at the crank less 20% = 99.4 RWHP

WTF

That's what I always thought as well, however, I have seen statements saying that it will go 0-60 in 5.8. Not that I'm a 0-60 kinda guy, but I just feel like the RX-8 should be faster than a family car.

Oh well, we'll just have to see what happens I suppose.

I understand what you are saying and I love my car no matter what. I just wish they would have made the Miata different looking than the RX-8, that's all. I mean did they have to use identical headlights?

Well at any rate, it's the concensus that this is a chop anyway...but if it did come out I would feel less individualistic about my car.

If that's the new Miata....

If that's the new Miata I will be trading my 8 in. This may sound childish, but I am sick of Mazda destroying the RX-8's image. With the MS 6 around the corner, all that we have left is our looks. So Mazda goes out and makes the Miata look like the RX-8. Now there will be a million cars that look like ours on the road. Why can't they leave well enough alone!

Mazda's own official performance numbers for 0-100 km/h (62 mph): MS6, 6.6 sec. RX-8, 6.4 sec. RX-8 is still faster.

Oh, and despite being published by Autobild, those photos driven by a Michael Jackson freak mannequin are definitely, badly, Photochopped, and do not include many of the obvious features from the spy photos of the real, camoflaged car that circulated a couple of months ago.

Repeat - those are NOT "photos" of the next NC Miata. Period. I would not count on ANY details of that car being accurate. The grill is wrong, the lights are wrong, the hood is definitely wacky, the windshield and the lack of vent windows is wrong, the missing fuel filler door on the left rear fender is wrong, the tail lights are wrong, the missing side marker lights are wrong, the license plate is the one worn by the white engineering mule from 6 months ago (that had disguise bodywork of the RX-8 front end and NB Miata back end), etc. etc.

Regards,
Gordon

Its starting to look like the relationship between the RX8 and the Miata is becoming a little like that of the Boxster and 911. From the front they are quite similar and hard to distinguish froma distance but the rears are a much more different.

I will join rotten42 and yamajj - they can do whatever they want to the Miata, the Mazda3, Mazda6, Mazda53, etc....

I love my 8. I'm keeping my 8 - and my sh_t eating grin every time I'm behind the wheel.

Wait - I have the same grin when I see it in the garage, and the parking lot, and......and.....and.....

Check out the lower front side of the driver's side. It kinda blotchy. Is that the work of a Photoshop rookie?

Rotten, if your out there, your expert opinion please.

oh on the wheels issue- there was one of those Nissan Murano or something things in our parking lot here at work a little while ago. from a distance i would have sworn it had the same wheels as my RX8. on closer inspection there was a small difference in the spokes but they were definely made by the same company that makes our wheels. and the difference was just a minor change to the spokes. so my point is there are many wheels coming stock from japanese auto companies being made by the same vendor. so naturally they are going to look alot alike- especially if they are 5 spokes

The driver's side mirror is the only clue needed.

Obviously you have not read all of my posts in this thread.

Don't make assumptions.

Before we jump to any conclusions, a couple of things.
Lots of publications doctor photos, advertisements, etc. Remember the typical airbrushed centerfold? So they might have photoshopped a real photo for reasons such as removing shadows, emphasizing highlights, making the whole thing glossy, etc.

Also, it'd be good to get someone who reads German to tell us what the article says. I tried to puzzle out some of it, with a little of my high-school German and a lot of Babelfish. The main headline, "Sparvergleich in funf Klassen," seems to be "Savings comparison in five classes." Probably comparisons among a bunch of different cars.
Then look at the text in the red circle. I think it is something like "The stock fender and the (bulging proportions) dominate the rear. In front it has a laughing face like a small RX-8."
I wouldn't write it off as a fake, but I'd sure like to know the source of the article and what it says.

Also, note that the caption that refers to the "Mittelmotorsportwagen" mentions the MR2 and Celica, not the RX-8.

I'm taking a stab at that caption and it's something like:

The doubled (something?): As replacement for the MR2 and the soon to be discontinued Celica is this Mittelmotorsportwagen (middle engine sports car?) believed to be (no idea.)

For the end of 2006 recommended two-seater is getting a concealable hardtop and (something or other) with hybrid drive too ...

(I'll never make fun of other people's English skills again.)

As for the photos -- the top-down and top-up shots are clearly the same basic photo. The reflections on the door handle and just in back of it are the same. Looks like they had only one shot, so they chopped out the top and pasted in a driver so they could "show" it with the top down. Then they added the wheel blur.

Again, magazines do this sort of doctoring all the time. Not necessarily ethical, but there you are.

Head Lights, and Tail Lights

The one thing about this picture that bothers me, is the head and tail lights. Neither seem to reflect the sun the way the rest of the car does. They both seem to have the apperance of a picture taken indoors. Who knows, time will tell.
