Rotary HYDROGEN Mazda released in Japan

http://media.ford.com/mazda/article_...ticle_id=27080

While the website announcement ( links above ) of a Hydrogen/Gasoline Dual-Fuel Hybrid Mazda Premacy is old news; what is very new News is that MAZDA in Japan have made a fleet of these street legal in Japan and are leasing these to businesses and individuals, so far only in Hiroshima

**The fleet leasing started this week **

No, I haven't driven one yet, but I'll own or lease one if/when these become available in Tokyo

I guess your Rotary engine just became "futureproof"....

Power is rated at 110kW, a shave better than Honda's.

Isn't the H-RE RX-8 already being leased? I heard they've already sent some to Finland or Iceland.

Honda is also going to be leasing their FCX sometime soon. I hope the hydrogen experiment will go far in development.

Not in Japan. Toyota have had a couple of "all electric" vehicles, including a RAV4, several of which were leased out to hotels in the Channel Islands ( near the UK ) and an electric Corolla, which wasn't for sale but was tested by various car magazines

The Electric RAV was offered to the public here in Jpaan as long as 10 years ago; these were about US$50,000

Hydrogen power: I've been to a University open day in Tokyo where one of the students had converted his 300ZX to run on hydrogen. The conversion to an existing engine isn't such a big deal; the ( safety ) fuel cell, however, *is* a big deal, Hydrogen is highly explosive, ( more volatile than most fuels ) and then sourcing the hydrogen is an even bigger deal; hardly anyone sells that.... *Yet*

I wonder what would be involved in generating your own Hydrogen?

Err, let's see, Water, electrictity + catch it in a plastic cup, right??

Ta-da! Home Energy Station

I'm not a huge Honda fan, but they're just doing a lot of neat things. I'll bet they're also working on making ASIMO nuclear.

I could make a 1 rotor Renesis produce that much (little) power. No thanks. I'll wait until the series hybrid/electric rotary comes out.

No need for transportation of hydrogen fuels as each fueling station will create its own hydrogen fuel on site. (of course bigger units). Which will reduce cost of fuel drastically.

Since that article Mazda had announced that they increased the output by 40% or something and that they had increased the range considerably.

IIRC, the Premacy had increased range over the 8, but did they also increase the power and range of the hydrogen 8?

I'm with rotarygod, hybrid/electric or electric assisted turbo.

Hydrogen is big game being played on the consumer.
