porting
If I'm not mistaken, they didn't make porting on this engine very worth while. The way the ports are shaped and such...you won't be getting a big enough bang.
Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

you can also remove too much material causing issues with the seals.
your intake ports are already as large as ported rx-7 engines. exhaust is the only thing you can change, but you can't change enough to make it worthwhile.
only exception is if your engine is already apart and you want to round off some of the edges a bit.
mazda spent quite a while looking at the exhaust ports since they're redesigned from previous rotary engines..

to answer your question, if I were to do the porting myself using the sand, I would use the coarse sand.
again, not responsible for any damages from porting the car with sand

*Car begins to explode*
Doesn't work to well with the MSP because you hit the water jacket before you get anywhere.
