Any word on the cause? Lift? Driver error?

...what a shame. beautiful, beautiful car. dang.

looking at that aero kit (beastly but utile) i don't think there's any way that car's gonna "lift" at any speed.

it's either driver error, or an irregularity in the road (meaning he hit it, and it's his fault ) that threw the car off the road into that ironically well placed pole... weird. oh wait, is that pole part of that ex-car??

How did it happen? Well 90% of the crashes in that race are due to either cross winds or tire blow, mostly cross winds. They run flat out on the desert roads in an area of random strong gusts of wind, which pushes alot of cars off the road when they are cruising at 200+ mph.

i got all of this at the car and driver forum

Yeh, they could probably assemble the new car around the old one's handbrake - there's not a lot to salvage from those shots.

Perhaps a few of the unbreakable bits can be re-used.

that was one impressive crash.. to walk away from that is incredible...

looked like the car rolled a few times before it was stopped by that pole.

Its not a miracle, its a f'in huge rollcage, and multipoint harness. Thumbs up to whoever put that in, good test of what they built

well pictures don't seem to be loading for me, but my first thought when he said "lift" was throttle lift oversteer...
