I flash them five times, with 1-2 seconds in between each flash. If by then they don't move over, I turn my brights on and leave it on. They usually get the message.

oh.......and it is a law in MOST states(as has been pointed out) that the left hand lane is overtaking another vehicle only.......ie.......passing. I wish they enforced it here in Florida..........I know it's on the books!
And I know blue-hairs are clueless.........as are soccer moms...........in vans............... on cellphones!

How the hell can you not know some simple laws? The worst part is most of the people they interviewed weren't "dunt-dun-duh" people, and looked to be of average intelligence. How can you get behind the wheel, and suddenly become stupid? It's an epidemic.

My guess is it's just pathetically poor schooling in traffic law and theory. I don't remember being told once by my high school driving instructor that the left lane was for passing. Luckily, I learned that from my parents, who are car nuts (and some from the internet too). In fact, most of what I've learned about being a decent driver, I learned from my parents, not drivers ed.

Basically, driver's ed taught me how to not ram into solid objects and how to stop at stop signs and red lights. My parents and the internets taught me to keep right except to pass, keep my high beams OFF when traffic is present (in EITHER direction), turn my headlights ON when conditions are dim/sunset, not to mash the brakes every 2 seconds, to always signal when changing lanes/turning, not to ride next to the only other car on the road, to pull over for emergency vehicles, and not to swerve out of the way of stopped traffic at the last second so the guy behind has to panic brake. I'm sure I missed some other assorted asshattery, but I'm sure you can fill in the blanks.

Well.................thank mom and dad for me! My girls know the rules as well.
That's a pretty good list. Of course there are a few others, but oh well.
Driving is a privilege, not a god given right.
Back in the day, the lane thing was actually on the written test....in this state.

Anyway, pretty hard to believe that the lane issue used to be on the test at one point in time, especially considering the horrifying drivers you see around here these days.

I'm sure your girls will be/are good drivers as well. I've noticed that good drivers and car enthusiasts tend to raise good drivers without much effort.

I always believe that you need to put your children in a race (AutoCross or track day, whatever) once or twice to teach them good car control. Then put them on a Defensive Driving course with the Mid-Ohio Driving School (school for racing drivers, but they also teach defensive driving).

That should make a complete driver out of anyone.

Funny you should mention that. I have a cousin who is going to be 16 in April, and I've decided that I'm going to foot the bill for his first autox as a birthday present. I just need to find out if he'll have his own car or not...

I paid $350 for the teen program, and added up overall with lodging, food, and gas, I paid about $500.

Best money I've ever spent. On anything. I'll definitely go back for another course.

In Idaho, on the very few sections of road that have 3+ lanes... people hardly touch the far left lane. The cops are too aggressive and belligerent here.
