Here in Illinois, we have a law that people in the left lane, must move right for faster traffic. This still isn't followed and it isn't enforced.

I've seen it done here in CA. If someone is in the left lane doing only 50-60 mph, they'll get a ticket

It's the same everywhere. You should not be in the left lane unless you are passing someone, simple as that.

WRONG. I know it's like that in Jersey (as I was there last summer) but in California, the left lane is NOT reserved strictly for passing. It's for 'faster' traffic.

And a good way to get a ticket. Driving in the driving lanes at high speed will less likely result in a speeding ticket than if you are driving at a high speed in the passing lanes. Also you have the concept of people who want to drive faster than you. It's not your or my job to keep their speed in check. If they want to go faster, let them, you should be driving in the right lane EXCEPT to pass.

wow - you mean they are actually enforcing a law that is GOOD?

Here in texas 70% of people are so blind to their surroundings and the cars/people around them that they just poke along. If you are so wrapped up in yourself and going slow in the left lane just slowing traffic I will flip you off as I drop it to 3rd and zoom zoom past your ***.

The worst is when you have someone going 55 in a 70 in the fast lane, and the lane next to it is a slower driver, boxing you in with no escape. You would think people would realize the reason you are getting your *** ridden and lights flashed at you is beacuse you are in the fast lane.

People are retarded.

yup. yesterday on my drive home from work, there was this lady, not old, but hunched over the steering wheel, talking on her cell phone, and would go 10 below the speedlimit, but some how, for 75% of my drive, she would always be either right in front of me, or behind me. if i wasnt driving my 8, i would have rammed her *** off of a bridge so fast. she had to be one of the dumbest drivers i have ever seen.

that drive home from work is the 1 reason i still smoke. if i didnt smoke before and after that drive home, i guarantee, at least 5 people a day would be dead.

I still think it's a bit bizarre that they're playing both sides of the coin. If you go too fast, you get a ticket. If you go too slow, you get a ticket. What is the magical speed that you're allowed to be in to be traveling in the left lane?

If someone is going 10 below the speed limit in the left lane then they should get pulled over. But if someone is going the speed limit in the left lane you're asking them to get out of your way so that you can break the law. I know we all do it, but it's a little weird.

Personally, I just use the shoulder or get up on two wheels. I go places to be, ya know?

If the enforced this law here it would reduce road rage. AND probably reduce accidents.

In Phoenix, the right lane is the fast lane.
Not by law, but by fact.
Almost everyone makes a b-line for the left lane as soon as they hit the highway, accelerating as fast as they can diagonally across 5 lanes of traffic, and then slow down to the limit or less and pick up the phone.

The right lane is almost always empty until you come to a merge.
Then, all the people that are poking along in the left lane suddenly realize that they need to exit, so they stand on it again, crossing 5 lanes of traffic with no signal, on the phone, and drive over to gore onto the exit.

I just stay in the second lane and move right to pass.

They've been doing that in Georgia for years. I wish they would do it here in Ohio. What irritates me is when they do it in packs. You'll have your slow drivers in the right lane, people doing the speed limit in the middle, and people that do 1-2mph more then the people in the middle in the left lane slowly passing. Then you'll have traffic that was behind you box you in behind the slow drivers when you're trying to get to the right lane for the exit.

The far right lane works a lot in Maryland too. Everyone is ABOVE being in the slow lane, so the right lane is empty, the middle lane is all of hte people that SHOULD be in the right lane, and the left lane is the peopel that should be in the middle lane. SO Right to Left, the average speed, minus merging sections is like
80, 60, 65... reatarded.

*NO, I am not picking on the mentally Ill. I feel that soem may be able to understaNd the concept of only being in the left lane if you are significantly faster then the car to your right... MY PROGRESS is retarded by selfish drivers.

Maryland driving depends on where you are.
The B-More beltway is a lot less annoying than the DC beltway.
The B-More beltway from Towson down to I-70 seems to stratify the right way for some reason. 70 itself isn't bad, either.
But the DC beltway from College Park to Tysons is insane. The level of aggression is out of control and the weaving is chaotic at best.
At least the SUV population isn't as bad as it was a few years ago.
Here in Phoenix, SUVs and trucks make up the majority of the traffic and the guys driving them think they are in Ferraris.
In MD, the trucks are mostly piloted by women who seem to be afraid of everything.

Texan traffic makes me sad. Not a lot of traffic IQ here. Wish the left lane thing were enforced.

It's nice to see this enforced, but don't get the idea that it's about slow speed. It's about failure to yield to faster traffic on a 4 lane road. Now if they'll go after tailgaters and failure to signal lane changes we'd be good.
