Oh my Gosh I've Been Iked!!!
Ike, Ike, Ike....
Boy we go together like oil and water. But I got Iked the other day. Something happened while I was perusing the internet and different cars. I am heavily considering purchasing an STi. I am ready for some ***** to the wall fun in a vehicle and I don't want to spend it in a 350 or Mustang. I'm 38 and I don't even want the boy racer look. I am more the G35 type but yet, what real fun is that? Sure, it's fun but it's a safe fun.
I'm tired of "safe fun". I want something outta the ordinary. Something that says "get in me and whip me plenty". Ok, I'm not talking about the spouse. The only other one I looked at was the Evo and after the comparison, I believe the STi edges out the Evo IX MR or whatever it's called in my opinion. I found myself going over the whole stiforums website and actually reading every post with the seriousness of an actual purchase. I have looked past the spoiler and some of the other garbage. I had considered a used Viper a few months ago but something about the Sti pulls me in.
Please send Ike outta my head, it's unnerving.

Stop!!! I have the hemi in the sig because I bought another vehicle-a 2005 Durango.
I am deeply ashamed and I feel it is not some wild hair. I'm sick of driving the politically correct cars that I am used to. I want to drive something like a scalded cat. The SRT8 Charger is too much money for what they want for it. 350-no, 'Stang-no, 300SRT8-tempted but no,used Viper-not multi-dimensional enough, AWD and torque goodness-argh the Ike mobile....

BTW- I posted seriously about this. I don't want to make the wrong decision but seeing that ghastly car in my garage is just plain wrong. But the performance would be exhilarating.

the STI is a helluva car but i dont like how the new front looks for 2006. I used to like it moe than the evo but nw they redesigned the front i would rather have an evo. I really like the fact that you can get leather in the evo also. But im a car fanatic, give me a little whie and ill find you a ***** to the wall car.

I am approaching that feeling I get when I get serious about ownership. I have the other vehicles for their purposes. I am trying to get over the hot pink stickers in the front (can they be easily removed?). I know this topic's been beat down but I need help! Someone talk me out of it.

I do like the G35. It is perfect but it doesn't scream excitement like the STi. It's almost too perfect for my tastes. It is like the sensible choice. I dont want sensible anymore for my next vehicle. I would consider one other vehicle and that is a new Mustang Cobra. I dont mean the expensive Shelby but a Cobra around 36,000 dollars or so. Before I bought my 8, I had looked into a Roush Stage 2 Mustang but decided against it.
I prefer four seats cause I still have a kiddo whos 8.

Also, I will check out those other links tomorrow. I think I saw several people post why they switched to the Evo and those who switched to the STi. I had heard the Evo takes longer to spool up than the STi but could be wrong.

whats wrong with an fd? assuming you dont need it as a dd, it seems like it would fit your desire well. the money to buy a good used one (17k) would leave you plenty to mod the car with and possibly some left over.

The original poster has got me pumped too!
Rowdy...so you want something that throws you into your seat, has 4 doors and handles like a roller scate? That's the kind of car I like driving too. You're looking at the right cars. The STi and Evo are the only choices in the world that will do what you want...although that "tuner ready" WRX set to be released soon should be interesting too.
I was at the local Mistubishi dealer today for a scheduled 15k mile service. Along with a 10yr/100k mile powertrain warranty, The Evo comes with free scheduled service every 5k miles up to 45k miles. Something nice to consider. I'm not sure on the STi's warranty and maintenance, but I do know they seem to have run real strong and reliable since the first '04 models rolled of US dealer lots. On the other hand the '03 Evo had some drivetrain issues that were eventually sorted out by '04. Since the 2004 model, the Evo is built like a brick **** house though. Due to some changes in the turbo, exhaust and the software, power for the '05 Evo VIII increased about 12whp/10wtq. If you want to try and drive the best one go check out an '06 Evo IX MR model. I have to say I was incredibly impressed today when I saw a few of them on the sales lot. One of the service guys said he's noticed they pull noticeably harder during freeway bursts and stick sharp corners even harder. The cosmetic changes to the IX are subtle but definately a quiet improvement. The leather Recaro seats grab you and the sound system seemed pretty decent. Of course that wing will have to go after a few speeding tickets. The biggest bonus for '06 is the mid and high end power you pick up from Mitsubishi's new variable valve timing. Bone stock these cars, STi or Evo, are getting to 60mph in about 4.6 seconds, doing a VERY low 13 second 1/4 mile and trapping at up to 106mph. You'll beat a new BMW M3 down a city block.
The STi does everything as well as the Evo except the handling. Better driverfeed back through a better tuned suspension, quicker steering rack, ACD and LSD make for more driver confidence and consequenrly better track times. The Evo also comes with a stickier tire and a slightly wider wheelbase. That's it though. Besides that each car's performance is a wash. Both will rip your face off from a stoplight. First time I ever launched my Evo was more violent than I was expecting. In an instant I ended up with 2 fingers holding to the steering while for dear life while the other was grasping desperately for 2nd gear. Some STi drivers will say they drive the better city brwaler, but they're just feeling the low end torque of the bigger 2.5L in the STi. It will zip you around town effortlessly without ever needing to exceed 4k RPM's. Different means to the same end. Whereas the Evo does it with a smaller 2.0L engine and a beefy 16g turbo, the STi does it with a healthy 2.5L motor and a smaller snail. The STi chugs around town like it's sporting a small-block V8. The boxer engine also sounds awesome with a freer flowing exhaust. The Evo needs another 800 RPM's to come to life, but at about 3.5k RPM's about 23lbs of boost comes on in an awesome rush of power and from there the car pulls like a raped ape. Some like one while others like the other. It's Pepsi vs. Coke and you really can't lose with either. If I didn't own an Evo I'd be driving an STi. Now let me ask you a loaded question...you you plan to mod the STi/Evo?
BTW...Ike drives a WRX, not an STi.

if u want to mod it, evo is the way to go. way bigger aftermarket, you wont have to spend too much to get a 11 second car. EVO = better handling, better performance, more fun. STi = much better daily driver, more comfort, more reliable. G35 = more $$$$
