Do they really? So many times?? I think not. The automotive journalists I read are usually insightful and truthful. Clearly not shills for the manufacturer. Look at this writeup on a Porsche Boxster:

2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder Review

And read these Miata reviews. Do they seem "bought" to you? They certainly don't to me. To me, they come across as sincere, offering up honest takes on the new version:

Mazda MX-5 Miata Reviews - Mazda MX-5 Miata Price, Photos, and Specs - Car and Driver

Driving the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata and its ancestors

Mazda MX-5 Miata First Drive - Consumer Reports
(Note that CR does not accept any advertising. They are beholden to no one.)

2016 Mazda MX-5: The Miata Gets Back on Track - WSJ

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club Review

A 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Pilgrimage

http://blog.caranddriver.com/mazda-r...iata-variants/

http://mx5club.org.nz/first-drive-2015-mazda-mx-5/

What, exactly, in these reviews strikes you as bogus? What, exactly, suggests that these writers are in Mazda's pocket? The comments certainly seem believable and objective to me.

Yes, from years of reading almost every Mazda and many others brands news alerts, motoring websites, magazines from around the world.

It is the 'details' they get wrong and they do so many times, they publish whatever the vehicle distributor or publicity department tells them at the time and is not verified.

A recent example comes to mind on the new BM Mazda 3 before it was officially released, here in Australia it was said this new 3 was 'suspension tuned' for 'Australian conditions', reporters and journalists write this as a fact, when I know it is BS.
Every component (part) is identical to the ones sold and used in North America and parts of Europe.

Another with a US review of the new CX-3 and comparing it to a Mazda 3, really, has anyone seen the size of the CX-3, it is a Mazda 2 inside and out.(except the engine, brakes).

Another is a payola case(s) involving Mercedes Benz buying favour (around the world), the new S class wins 'car of the year' in many countries where it is sold. Before that MB flies certain influential 'motoring journalists' from around the world to I think it was south of France (2014) for 6 days, living in luxury showered with gifts.
Just another example of buying favour *right or wrong*.

I will repeat "I don't always believe what 'a' tester says from 'a' paid motoring magazine, as they get it wrong so many times.

You would think Mazda would have been smart enough to have this car available for the summer driving season for the northern half of the country. Summer is already half over and you can't even build one on the website yet.

Not making any excused for them, but they are flat out in Japan keeping up with world production on much more successful models (to date) than any MX-5, which is still a small seller when compared to other models out of Hiroshima.

I got this feeling the MX-5 will be in restricted numbers.
On average you I an talking 2.5 cars per dealer in US for initial shipment.(roughly, I think it was 2000 units for US).

Somehow I think Mazda might keep numbers low for a year or so...to 'try' and keep demand up.

Another gem for a 'Motoring journalist in Europe' on the ND.

The 130-litre boot (trunk) is 20 litres smaller than the previous car’s, but has more usable space.

.......OK...so it holds more?

I haven't really heard any volume projections, but if it is a low number, then you possibly get into that situation where dealers won't even let you test drive one without putting down a deposit. Not a good way to win over customers.

No, it specifically states that it's smaller, but if it has all kinds of small nooks & crannies that you can't fit a box or bag into then the extra space doesn't really serve any useful purpose other than being a number you can wave around fooling less than informed people with. Not that hard to understand really.

NO, Did not know you owned an NC and used the boot, sorry trunk.
There are No "nooks or crannies" in an NC.

And 20 litres is 'space', in your conversion about 4.5 gallons or 1.5 cubit feet (roughly)..

Volume is volume, and impossible to fit 150 litres into a 130 size, not that hard to understand.

My point if you comprehended, was the 'journalist' just copied what 'Mazda publicity' told him.

Keep up, you will argue black is white.....

20L is a 10.5" cube, so under a cubic foot. The NC got whipped often for being too big & heavy. So something has to give somewhere. Plus nobody buys a Miata for hauling appliances home or taking the whole family on an extended vacation.

They (journalists) always do that, plus you've made plenty of excuses here on their behalf over the years. You just have a burr up your butt over the ND this time around. Good to see the more human side of you for a change just the same

maybe the phrase is lost in translation, but save the sad pity for yourself and your insistence to pick away at the ND Miata at every drop of a journalistic hat ...

I'll beat the usual naysayers by saying this us a pretty lame video, I feel like I'm watching that Follywood schlock movie where Tom Cruise plays NASCAR driver trying to emulate 200 mph when they're only going 50 mph if even that, whst a crock of fertilizer ...

I know you guys can do better than this drivel, not acceptable ...

I'd take Fiat's 124 Abarth version of this platform over the MX-5.

Because we all need unreliable versions of an MX-5.

In theory, Mazda would be assembling them.

Which just makes it's Fiat's first reliable car

Not neccessarily. There's rumors afoot that the Alfa Romeo 4C's 1.7 could be powering the 124.

Also, SNTP- You don't have first hand experience with Fiat from the sound of it.

I thought Fiat is to provide their own powertrain?

Yeah, the Chrysler turbo engine that was previously being tested in the mule is the reasonable guess.

Not that I like anything from Chrysler any better.

I see you can finally build the 2016 MX-5 on the Mazda website. Mazda really needs to address their awful color palette.

^Drove one of those two weeks ago and can say that the people who give it bad marks are NOT people who understand what a sports car is supposed to be.
