Hamilton's Australian Pole 2014

This was a great wet weather pole position, especially with the new turbo car. Enjoy:

Aaaaand the cars are 10 seconds slower than they were in 2004.
It's fun how technology means regress instead of progress under the right circumstances.

I think the slowing of the cars is due to harder tires and the loss of underbody downforce. The engines are said to be producing up to 1000 hp. And, that isn't a drop over last year.

Where are you getting these numbers from?

Maylasian Grand Prix fastest lap:
2013: 1:39.199
2014: 1:43.006

3.8 seconds slower, not 10.

In the practice of the Bahrain GP earlier today, and the top 13 cars are all faster than last year's fastest lap, with Hamilton 2 seconds faster. I'm not sold on the idea that these cars are absurdly slow. I don't think total fuel should be restricted, but that's my only objection to the new cars/rules.

Isn't it funny to see Vettel aaaaaaaaall the way back there when he hasn't got the best car? love seeing ricciardo kicking his ***. Vettel is nothing, was nothing, never will be anything. anyone in that car and the support of the team (meaning webber had lesser material) would have won. no different than button winning because of double diffuser. I've been waiting for this for 3 years. Finally that finger punk is being put where he belongs. If it means crappy sound to see him actually having to work so be it.

Hamilton fighting off rosberg on medium tires. Nobody can question his skills again. rosberg should have gotten past him after the restart. absolutely amazing. no team orders just Hamilton saying I am the nr 1 here.

Hamilton is clearly a great driver.

Now, anybody can help find an excuse for Ferrari's failure?
**** them.

their package just isn't good. like Mclaren last year. I think their engine is about as good as the Renault. Ferrari has their work cut out for them. But I think they're already too far behind. With the ban on testing the way it is nobody can make up those kinda gaps.

You can test engines. You can't test chassis's. There is no excuse.

They need to execute some people and start from scratch.

I don't think Ferrari or Renault ever thought the Mercedes power unit to be THAT good. Ferrari has reliability but it's heavier and less powerful than the Mercedes unit. They were saying 5 to 15 kilo heavier. 10 to 30 lbs roughly. But the engines are sealed so tough to improve till next year. only mapping is allowed. Mercedes' split turbo is a work of genius. It also allows for tighter bodywork so the car has better aero. Ferrari has to start buying people and building a team from the ground up like Mercedes has done over the last few years. I wouldn't be surprised if they're designing a brand new car at Maranello since it lacks in every department. straight line and cornering speed, balance and braking. better to start over than trying to fix everything.

I was finally able to watch the race on my DVR last night, what a great race.

Hamilton winning on harder tires was awesome! Speaking of awesome, watching Vettal suck this season confirms my thoughts from last year, He had the better car / setup and Webber got hosed.

Also, poor Kimi, Ferrari is just a whole bunch fail right now.
