I thought sundays race was great, and Lewis's drive from 20th to 3rd was awesome. Although a 2.5 to 3 second 4 tire change is fantastic to watch, most teams can acheive these times. F1 needs to bring back refueling to get that extra challenge to the pit lane crews.

F1 is dead. The cars are a slow joke, slower than they were over 10 years ago when they couldn't use slicks.

All this bullshit about f1 having to help develop street cars... that's bullshit for ****'s sake! F1 has only one purpose and it is to build the fastest machinery EVER. **** road cars, hybrids, aero restrictions etc.

20th to 3rd. Correct. Good stuff. Alonso drove like the champ he is. Vettel was super aggressive. Ricciardo is amazing. Raikkonen tried his best. Bottas was fantastic. Lots of action indeed.

Paul.

Ricciardo did well to avoid collision at the start. Great race and good to see a range of drivers doing well.

F1 is more interesting to me this year than prior years, though I agree that they need to do away with fuel limits. I was pondering today what would happen if all the teams privately agreed to ignore fuel flow limits. The fiasco would all be on the FIA's end as they try to figure out what to do when every team breaks the same rule in the same way. I mean, what a laughing stock they would be if they DQed every team every race...

The live F1 broadcast, in the US this weekend, is over CNBC. NBC Sportsnet will have it on delay.

They weight 30kg more overall than their 13" counterparts. The high sidewall is also very important for a f1 car to maintain grip during their extremely high cornering Gs.

They're racing with over 700kg cars when they could be racing 600kg rockets.

F1 is in the wrong... they address real problems by creating more problems instead of seeking simple solutions.

Hmm. Politics and bad management has been the culture of F1 for how many decades now? I would think that the proper complaint would be with allowing that to continue. Trying to fix the leaves on the trees doesn't do much if the roots are still rotten.

Yup, the move from v12 to v10, and then v8 engines was stupid.
That's where the real decline begun, along with the ban on slick tyres and mandatory tyre sizes.

I disagree. Every motorsport has evolved / changed over the years in one way or another. The fact that there has been engine downsizing isn't actually the problem. While I don't have a problem with the current iteration at all, it seems that the individual choices that you complain about could be done entirely within your own standards if there was different management up top. For example, if the fuel flow limit and max fuel limit were removed, I'm pretty sure that the current F1 cars would be the fastest ever. Larger wheels will add some more weight, sure, but they would also allow larger brakes.

But again, if it is poor decisions that you don't like, yell about the people making them, not the decisions themselves.

Yelling about the symptoms doesn't do much. Gotta fix the root disease.

What?
Today's cars are seconds slower than their counterparts from the late 90s\early 2000s. You may not have a problem with the current iteration but I sure as hell do.

What's the point of slowing a series down?
What's the point of having a lot of teams that complain about costs? Cut those teams, not the costs. It's the pinnacle of motosport for ****'s sake! If you don't have the money to play just join gp2 instead!

Since you can't change the FIA all I can do is complain about their choices. They're worse than the US government when it comes to bad choices yet they're both still there.

Stills seems like a backwards way to approach what you see as a problem. The FIA will always continue to make decisions that you disagree with. What's the point of disagreeing with each decision individually?

Cars have mechanical differences. It's a universal truth that will always exist, including in motorsports with purpose built cars.
Cars also change. Another truth. The F1 cars that you liked had to change from something else to get there.

Change isn't the problem you actually have, but it's the only thing you rant about. Change will happen regardless of who is in charge. If you don't like the direction that FIA is going, then rouse up some of your italian friends and go root out the entrenched FIA politicians?

THEY are your problem, not V6s, turbochargers, wheel sizes, car weights, or fuel controls.

I followed F1 before you knew what it actually was, like most europeans. I started watching it when I was 3 and I loved the cars going wroom wroom. Those drivers were my super heroes.

What I dislike is changes for the sake of change. You don't fix something that's not broken. What's the point of reducing costs when you force the teams to develop a completely new chassis and gearbox to go with an engine that's over 3 times more expensive than the previous units?
What's the point of fixed gears for a whole season? National level GT cars don't do that...
What's the point of hybrid downsized engines? F1 followers want the screamers. A V6 turbo engine doing 18k rpms would be much more interesting to follow than the crapshit they run now. Just let the teams change engine after qualifying... something you can't do. Hell they will have even less engines per season starting next year.
Curfews for the mechanics? Ban on testing? **** that!

I like raw sports. F1 was just that. Now the drivers have to baby complex cars with less downforce than they had 20 years ago while posting the same lap times. How is that racing?
Fuel limits? Ban on refuelling? Mandatory use of both compounds? No modifications to the car in the park ferme even if it's going to rain or you had a wet qually and expect a dry race?

That's not motorsport. You could let their lawyers race and it would just as boring.

I think you are proving my point

FIA is the problem, NOT the specific changes...

The specific changes are a byproduct of the FIA's thinking. I address them specifically to state WHY i hate the FIA (and bernie kidneystone)

The only specific rule set I see a problem with is fuel limitations. Both flow and total amount.

If those rules were dropped, the RPMs, power, and speed of these cars would jump up drastically. I agree that the FIA is corrupt and badly managed and needs to be replaced, but I don't have a problem with the rest of the changes at all. Just the fuel limits.

Lifting the fuel limit alone wouldn't do squat. Teams would still have to use 4 engines for 20 races.
That's ridiculous. Teams at national levels never do more than 2\3 races with the same engine...

You can't say that about me. I was following it before you were born.
Most of the other stuff was done to reduce cost and it only made it more expensive. Other requirements were due to Green/PC crap that has no place in racing. Refueling is due to safety. As far as tire/wheel size, it doesn't matter. They are all using a spec size and tire anyway.

Hey Al!

Wheel size matters in terms of absolute performance though, just like aero.
The pinnacle of motorsport should only use the best imho. It doesn't have to be relevant for road cars etc... they are race cars, not test beds!

There is no "right" wheel size imo. Larger wheels is more weight, but also more brakes. Sidewalls sizes too have their advantages and disadvantages, so there is also no "right" sidewall size.

There's a 5 second gap right now. Do you think that designing a car around bigger tyres would save 5 seconds?

More like 2, 3 tops!

Vettel is non-existant.
Hamilton is an idiot, plain and simple. Rosberg could have won the race if it weren't for him ignoring team orders.

Alonso is the best driver to ever grace the sport.
