Autoweek had the new name this morning. I was underwhelmed when I read it.^Uninspiring would be an understatement. Now watching the announcement, it is comical how they are so proud of the name and how important they feel the identity of the brand is. On that they failed. It's even hard to tell the difference in the IMSA logo, which was changed. What is IMSA anymore anyway? Isn't it irrelevant?

interesting. Look like the work they've been doing on the 6s is starting to pay off if qualifying for Barber is any indication.
GrandAm > Schedule/Results > results
Both the 70 and 00 are running 1:32s which is about 4 seconds faster than the Caymans and only 4 seconds off the FXDD Ferrari's pace and 8 seconds slower than the Vette on top in qualifying right now.
I guess conditions aren't that great so that might be having something to do with it but still that's a lot better than they were doing turning laps for the last race (not to mention the 24). If they start outperforming the Cayman's I would expect that team to drop out. PRetty sure they weren't planning on running a full season but since they were looking like a lock with the slow **** 6s they have kept running.

Live from RA saturday at 4:30 edt. on speed. no rx8's in GT. Is it me or has anyone else lost interest in this series?? Debating if I'm going to the 6hrs of the Glenn in June this year. although $30 for the whole weekend with free camping is hard to beat.

If GX had more cars, I think I could sort of get back into it but with the Mazdas all but guaranteed podium finishes (assuming they finish), it kind of takes the fun out of it.
I really wonder what will happen next year with the combined series.
will GX get buried even more than it is now or will other teams join?

I found myself doing more web browsing on my laptop than actually watching the race.
it was on in the background but it really has become difficult to watch without the rotaries and with the GX class being the forgotten little red headed step child of Grand Am.
I was having this conversation with my GF about how it's just not the same anymore and I'm literally having to force myself to watch instead of being anxious to watch as in years past.

well, this confirms it. I shot an e-mail yesterday to Jon Mirachi, owner of Racers Edge, and an FD owner btw, asking him if they were bringing the #78 rx8 (lil red taco) to the 6hrs of the Glenn at the end of June(they run 2 mustangs in the conti series). He sent me an e-mail right back saying, sorry but due to budget restraints the #78 will NOT be running any more this year.
all good things must come to an end. i guess. sux.

I heard a report this morning (Racing Insiders-MavTV) that GX would not be a standalone class. It's going to be merged into GT.
I wonder if this means Mazda won't continue supporting the 6 diesel?
Also, they want the ALMS GT cars faster than the GrandAm GT, to be called GTD, cars. Look for restrictor plates and spec wings for the GTD cars. P1 class will be going away for North America. There are only about 15 cars world wide. There isn't enough to run a regional series.

GX is too slow to run with GT especially if they want the GT's going even faster.
I can't envision a scenario where Mazda runs in this series next year unless SS jumps up to P2 ??? (with what engine?)
this has gotta suck for SpeedSource, I"m sure they expected more cars to run in GX to make this competitive but to be in a 3 dog race every event and then have your class eliminated a year later? ouch.
You guys think they'll stick around?
I tried, I really did. Decided to watch the race last night and lost interest about 30 minutes in. I think I'll watch the race at Laguna Seca but other then that I'm done.

The GX class speed isn't really an issue, it's already close, and is intended to be slower by the rule set, so it would just require a rule change. They wouldn't keep the same lower power restriction on those cars just because of the class they came from.
Agreed that the GX class is turning into a joke, especially since the only car the 6s are competing against has nothing to do with the intent of the class (alternative fuels, forced induction, hybrid drivetrains). It's a pretty big disappointment.
