Amen! Let them test.

They should allow the teams to test their cars, we wouldn't see 5\7 seconds gaps during every race plus i miss the refuelling.
If you can't afford to test stay out of F1!

I agree with everything you said, good post btw. my favorite part about any race series is pit stop. just like watching cars come in and the pit crew going crazy. but I just find it funny how Alonso pointed out something we already knew.

Nando needs to drive more and talk less or Polo and I will rivet his right foot on the gas pedal.

There's a fine balance here though. If the grid gets too small it's not going to be interesting either. Just look at WRC, and THAT series has the advantage of a lot more variability based on course conditions and driver error to level the playing field.

It's definitely a travesty that we're cursing Bridgestone for making super soft tires so good they can run a whole race and HOPING for rain on race day though. I think a better idea than the test ban honestly is a budget cap, but the teams wouldn't accept that.

shaunv74 07-14-2010 07:49 PM

I think instead of a budget cap and test ban to cut costs: Either freeze the chassis after the first race or allowing teams to buy a chassis from another team up front.

Freezing the chassis would force teams to focus on optimizing what they have and allow them to test. You can do what every other series does and add ballast to bring the field together somewhat.

Allowing a team to buy a chassis much like how they can buy motors would allow small teams to buy a competitive chassis from a top tier team as well as allow top teams to amortize cost a bit more on more chassis.

They do it with motors. Why not chassis if they are serious about cutting costs? :dunno:

Any here know how to play a violin? If so, call BBC and play them a song.

Ron FTW

BBC furious as Ron Dennis sabotages Eddie Jordan

Ron Dennis has apparently angered the BBC after he sabotaged Eddie Jordan’s equipment during the post race show at Silverstone – literally cutting off his fellow former team boss in his prime.

Dennis has a history as a practical joker, building himself a reputation during the Ayrton Senna/Gerhard Berger era at McLaren.

He appeared in the background behind Jordan at the start of a question and answer session with Christian Horner, but then quickly disappeared with a big smile on his face.

As Eddie began to talk to Horner he had no sound through his ears, and when a BBC technician dashed into inspect EJ’s equipment he found that the wires from the control box on his belt to his earpieces – specially made for him much like those used by drivers – had been cut. He thus couldn’t hear the director or properly participate in the show, and when standard set of earpieces was hurriedly supplied, they kept falling out.

EJ didn’t find the Dennis joke as funny as Ron did, and neither did the BBC, and apart from anything else Ron had in effect damaged equipment paid for by the taxpayer…

Apparently Martin Whitmarsh was also a little embarrassed by the behaviour of the McLaren chairman, who has otherwise kept a low profile this year.

Jordan is believed to be on holiday at the moment, and it remains to be seen whether any further action is taken.

Readers in the UK can check out the incident and its aftermath on the BBC iPlayer at around the 2:31.30 mark…

A set of wise words from Webber. I really like his attitude. I still think Vettel is faster but Webber really shows the signs of a mature racing driver (in contrast to the young pups like Vettel)

Mark Webber claims to have cleared the air with his Red Bull team after holding talks over its decision to give his updated wing to team-mate Sebastian Vettel at the British Grand Prix.

Tensions ran high over the race weekend amid accusations of favoritism towards Vettel, and on the team radio after winning Webber said: "Not bad for a No. 2 driver." Team boss Christian Horner insisted earlier this week that the issue had been addressed and that Webber had come round to his way of thinking after the situation was explained in full.

On his personal website Webber has now issued a statement saying there are no hard feelings between him and the team.

"My disappointment on Saturday after qualifying spilled over into Sunday but it was simply due to the fact that I, along with every other driver on the grid, wanted the best possible chance of success," he said. "Sebastian received the newer front wing for reasons which were not clearly explained to me until Saturday late afternoon. Obviously I can see why a team may at certain points have to favour a driver with more points in the championship, if there are only enough resources to fully support one of us.

"We've already debriefed the race weekend at the factory and have cleared the air. It's now understood that, should we face this unlikely dilemma again, preference will go to the championship points leader."

He said that his comments after the race had been made in the heat of the moment and that he regretted being so forward in public.

"Of course things get said in the heat of the moment which, with hindsight goggles on, probably shouldn't have been said," he added. "Formula One is a highly charged and fiercely competitive arena where emotions and adrenalin do run high from time to time like in many sports and my comment on the radio after the race was an example of Australian sarcasm - either at its best or worst depending on how you choose to take it.

"But rest assured, under the helmet I was massively rapt about winning one of the most prestigious events on the F1 calendar and Red Bull Racing's local race. It's a home race of sorts for me; I only live 40 mins down the road and the UK and Buckinghamshire in particular has been home to me for the past 15 years so Silverstone and the British GP are both very special to me."

He also said that his relationship with Horner remains strong and that he and Vettel are still working together for the good of the team.

"Christian Horner and I have known each other for many years; we're friends and have a strong mutual respect which continues and extends to other activities, such as our GP3 team and interest in finding and nurturing young racing talent," he said.

"The respect within the team extends to the drivers. I know I have a very good driver as a team-mate and I wouldn't want it any other way. We share information freely in team meetings and contribute to the development and improvement of our cars. Seb and I are not enemies, we're just two drivers that are pushing hard and want to do the best for ourselves and the team, it's as simple as that.

"The British Grand Prix was a wonderful result for myself and the team; however time moves fast and looking in the mirror for too long doesn't prepare us for Germany. We've moved on."

They don't want to cut costs, that's just what they say!
Adding rules increases costs! Think for a moment about the chassis development.
They added KERS, then removed it. Modified the wings then banned refuelling forcing the teams to make huge fuel tanks etc.
F1 should move back to what it once was, the mother of all racing.
State the dimensions, the number of wheels and the engine displacement. Then it's up to the teams!
All they should do is limit the piston's average speed so to make the engines perform in a similar way indirectly!
It's not that hard, the problem is that they don't want it! A race that lasts 10 minutes more gives room for 1 more advertising. 10 minutes more = more money paid from the broadcaster to show it etc.
It's like the NFL willing to add 2 regular season games. It makes no sense sport wise!

Villeneuve in running for F1 return with own team

Jacques Villeneuve is reportedly bidding to return to Formula One next year with his own team.

Germany's authoritative Auto Motor und Sport magazine said 'Villeneuve Racing' is one of the three candidates for the 13th and final place in pitlane.

The 1997 world champion and now 39-year-old French Canadian wanted to return to the cockpit this year with Stefan GP, but the Serbian outfit was not granted an entry.

The report said almost ten candidates originally made applications to race next year, but now there are only three in the running; with Villeneuve Racing and Cypher Group among them.

Auto Motor und Sport said the third name could be Spain's Epsilon Euskadi or the former GP2 team Durango, after Nicolas Todt's ART failed at the hurdle proving finance for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

The magazine said Villeneuve Racing has cleared all the hurdles so far, including proving an existing infrastructure for a team based in England.

The report said it is rumoured that Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds may be involved, as might be a crew made up of former Arrows and Super Aguri staff.

The FIA's decision about the 13th team is expected in late July.

Villeneuve last raced in F1 with BMW-Sauber in 2006, losing the seat to Robert Kubica mid-season.

Sounds like next year should be very interesting. Would be awesome to see eplison in the series also, very curious if they will use the standard blue and white color scheme.

HELLL YEAH!!!!...he's one of my favorite drivers! And DAMN....you know you're loaded when you try to get a race seat, nobody picks you up, then you say...F it, I'll build my own team and give myself a seat, LOL Right on, I hope it works out. And from what i've read, the Super Aguri staff is top notch!!!

Vettel: All F1 drivers are egotists

Red Bull may be claiming that all is well within the team, however, Sebastian Vettel says Mark Webber is never going to be his best friend.
Red Bull suffered another blow to their already tense team-mate battle when they handed Vettel the front wing off Webber's car ahead of qualifying in Britain.
The team's decision did not go down well with Webber, however, Vettel says that's F1, everyone driver is looking out for himself.
"The team is the priority... (but) in the end the pecking order is led by the faster man. Every driver is an egotist because you go down in Formula One if you aren't," Vettel told Der Spiegel magazine.
"The team-mate is the first you want to beat because he has the same equipment."
As for his relationship with Webber, who suffered yet another blow at Silverstone, Vettel said: "There is always a certain distance.
"We work together in certain areas to bring the team forward and to further develop the car. But apart from that everyone is focussed on himself and seeks his own advantage."
The German is currently fourth in the Drivers' standings, 24 points behind Championship leader Lewis Hamilton, and is determined that come the end of the season, he will be the man in the P1 slot.
"I have no joy in being an also-ran. I need this self-affirmation that I am better than the others," he said.

How true. It is refreshing to hear it said directly like that. It is a winner attitude and it is needed in F1 to be on top.

As for this silly wing thing going on: Vettel did everything right. The team management offered him a better wing. He took it, as he should. He took pole as he should. The only problem was that he had a bad start and an unfortunate flat tire. If not for the flat tire the race would have developed entirely differently.

No I believe in Vettel that he will bounce back higher from this and show Webber how that car is supposed to be driven ;)

Lets face it, Webber had never taken a single victory until Vettel came and started pushing him. Vettel took a victory before Webber using a Toro Rosso, and then when switched to Red Bull Vettel took a victory before Webber in a Red Bull also.

Now Webber finally has risen to the competition but before when he has Coultard as a teammate Webber just was not pushed hard enough. So say what you want about Vettel (ASH *cough cough*) but Vettel is the reason Webber has finally started driving fast.

I will cheer for Vettel this year. He deserves the victory after the bad luck he had in the start. Keep in mind that Vettel would be 50 points AHEAD of Hamilton right now if the bad luck in the start had not struck.

Also I will cheer for the McLaren boys of course!

Are you Fucking Serious???!!!...

The REASON Webber has started to WIN, is because he NOW has equipment that does not BREAK, he always HAD the "Ability"....How old are you??

As for Pissel...I can see he will have a short life thing..

As far as Webber not responding to Fettel, well it is his Nationality..that WWII thing we Australians have and many Westerners still remember about.

In fact when ever I see that kids face I want to punch it...sad I know...:)

Bernie Ecclestone is considering dropping the Monaco GP, saying the Principality does not "pay enough".

Monaco has been on the F1 calendar since 1955, however, the Principality reportedly does not pay to host the grand prix whereas other countries pay an average of 24million Euros.

And with Ecclestone looking to scrap existing races in order to sign up new countries and keep the calendar to a maximum of 20 grands prix, Monaco could be given the axe.

"I think it is possible (to have F1) without Monaco," the F1 supremo told Sport1.

"They do not pay enough."

However, with India and America are set to join the calendar in the next two years and Ecclestone looking at Russia and South Africa, Monaco is not the only European race that is under threat.

"The Europeans have to pay more money or we have to go elsewhere," added the 79-year-old.

Planet F1

Yeh, Bernie's funny even at 79. But I mean... Really, why does he still want more money when he's 79.

Ah you are too easy ASH :) I love riling you up... besides I still stand for what I said earlier. Webber was never pushed hard enough by Coultard. He needed a stronger teammate to unlock his potential.

And Vettel > Webber even when Webber has his potential unlocked. Sorry but that is how it is purely skill wise. ;)

bse50 07-19-2010 06:19 AM

Vettel is a better driver than webber without a shade of doubt. The problem is that Webber knows how to do his math better and is far more experienced. Those 2 things are fundamental in this crappy f1. Starting and pitting well is all that matters, pure fast lap skills are useless.

As for Ecclestone... he already killed this sport, he should just step away. We all know that old farts make stupid decisions.

I can see this happening. There just isn't enough room in the principality to put on a good race. For the track itself or for the pit/paddock area. The corners are so tight that they have to specially modify the cars to turn harder.

was brawn racing that pushed Red Bull. While all the other top teams were arguing over Brawn diffuser, Red Bull was working on the diffuser that the FIA said was ok to have. Prior to last year, Red Bull only wib one race due ot a fluke. So to say that Vettle is the reason why Webber is winning is umm incorrect. Webber is winning because Redbull got their act together last season and they aren’t stopping.

But go Team Hamilton :)
