Since we are talking about NASCAR for the moment. Rumor has it that Ford & Toyota are trying to pressure NASCAR to change the rules to move from carbs to fuel injection. Chevy & Dodge don't have a lot to say at the moment because their reduced involvement in the series. After all, carbs haven't been used on a U.S. production car in 20 yrs.

 

Hey now Los....don't knock it till you've tried it. I used to HATE NASCAR, but I got a chance to go to an ARCA race back in the late 90s and I thought....damn, these guys are hauling, and it looks pretty fun. Fast forward a couple years and a buddy of mine had a old 80s something BMW that he ran at an oval track in South Carolina..Myrtle Beach to be exact, in the "mini stock" catagory....I was the jack man. Now we are by no means talking anything professional, but damn, the competition, race fuel, tires so hot they burnt my cheap gloves, shitty hot dogs....Man!! I was hooked at that point. Now, we go forward to October of 2008...for my birthday, my wife got me the "Richard Petty Driving Experience" I got to drive a straight up 600 some odd HP NASCAR around Atlanta Motor Speedway. That was freaking AWESOME, and if you don't think those guys are driving their asses off, THINK AGAIN. True, it gets a little boring and predictable sometimes.....kind of like when Mika was kicking MS *** back in the day YEAH I SAID IT!!! But its just as true racing as anything else. Don't get it twisted, F1, in my opinion, kicks NASCAR in the butt when it comes to the technology and level of excitement, but you are sure to have a pretty darn good time at a race. And once you've gone to a race, watching it on TV makes it a bit more interesting.....Go drive one....and you'll be chewing tobacco and beating your wife with the best of em , just kidding, but you will appreciate it a lot more.

 

USF1's website is back up. The present speculation is they won't make Bahrain due to finances.

Heikki Kovalainen ended Lotus' second ever test day on Thursday by crashing the newly launched T127 car.

The Finn, making his return to a F1 cockpit in the wake of his McLaren career, lost control of the green and yellow car on the exit of turn 3 on the wet Jerez track.

The impact damaged the car's front nose and wing, and the Malaysian team does not have a spare on hand.

"Had a crash and damaged front wing, session over for us," the 28-year-old confessed via Twitter in the early afternoon.

"S..t! My mistake, tomorrow we go again," he added.

Kovalainen is indeed scheduled to return to the cockpit on Friday, before Jarno Trulli takes over on the last of the four-day session.

After Jenson Button finished the Jerez test with the best time, Fernando Alonso warned that Ferrari is yet to show its "muscles".

The Spaniard's best time weighed up 1.5 seconds behind the McLaren, but he told AS newspaper "there is no reason to be pessimistic" with another test to run in Barcelona next week.

A double world champion with Renault in 2005 and 2006, he warned that the F10 is "already the best car I've ever had".

"Red Bull, McLaren and Renault have gone quick and shown their cards," said the 28-year-old, "while we are still hiding ours.

"If I was with another team I would be looking at Ferrari, because everything so far is working very well."

Alonso suggested that one area for Ferrari to turn to is running with low fuel for qualifying simulations.

"This is where Red Bull and McLaren are showing very fast, and is certainly the basis for trying to improve the performance of the F10 in the next test of Catalonia (Barcelona)," he said.

Barcelona will also be a key indicator of the pecking order, because teams will run in their near-definitive packages for the looming Bahrain opener.

Ferrari has launched a renewed attack on the changes being made to F1, as well as the sports new teams, in an article published on its website.

With both USF1 and Campos yet ready to race, and the season just days away - it looks unlikely that fans will see the full grids many have hoped for. The column attacks the FIA's policy of encouraging new teams, claiming it would have been better to do more to convince the old manufacturers to stay.

"Of the 13 teams who signed up, or were induced to sign up, for this year's Championship, to date only 11 of them have heeded the call, turning up on track, some later than others, and while some have managed just a few hundred kilometres, others have done more, but at a much reduced pace," the column called 'the Horse Whisperer' claimed.

Despite the recent efforts to save Campos, the Ferrari writer is still scathing, claiming that the team has "benefitted from a sudden cash injection from a munificent white knight, well used to this sort of last minute rescue deal," but goes on to say that the team may well end of filling the role of "loyal vassal".

It is US F1 that comes in for the most criticism: "The thirteenth team, US F1, appears to have gone into hiding in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the dismay of those like the Argentinian, Lopez, who thought he had found his way into the Formula One, and now has to start all over again. Amazingly, it still has the impudence to claim that everything is hunky-dory under the starry stripy sky."

For any media wanting to gain the team's reaction to this, Ferrari suggests that the best way to contact Peter Windsor and Ken Anderson's team would be to call "Missing Persons". Serbian outfit Sefan Grand Prix, who could yet fill a vacant grid spot, does not impress either.

"Next, we have the Serbian vultures," the column continued. "Firstly, they launched themselves into a quixotic legal battle with the FIA, then they picked the bones of Toyota on its death bed.

"Having got some people on board, around whom there was still a whiff of past scandals [Mike Coughlan - the man at the centre of Spygate has been hired by the team], they are now hovering around waiting to replace whoever is first to drop out of the game.

"This [situation] is the legacy of the holy war waged by the former FIA president [Max Mosely]," it concludes. "The cause in question was to allow smaller teams to get into Formula One. This is the outcome: two teams will limp into the start of the championship, a third is being pushed into the ring by an invisible hand and, as for the fourth, well, you would do better to call on Missing Persons to locate it."

Seriously that anyone can cheer for a team that is so blatantly ugly to others is beyond me. I mean that anyone could think low of anyone, sure, but here Ferrari are officially going out and insulting its competitors.

WTF is their problem. And these are my reason why I hate Ferrari and Porsche in any motorsports. Their i owned the race series , because of my name , annoys me. They feel that they are owed this status.

This year, I shall be rooting for mclaren, and any team that can beat ferrari for the constructors. Also, why pick on Peter. He is such a good guy.

 

I wouldnt have a problem, if Ferrari was talking crap on Mclaren. Because Mclaren has a really good chance to put Ferrari in its place. But when Ferrari is on a attack on mode, on the newer teams. It just pisses me off, Yah the new teams are having a hard time atm, but sheesh STFU ferrari.

ALonso must really think, we are smoking crack. Does he honestly think ppl will believe he was treated unfairly at Mclaren. I just dont see any team, signing a world champion, just to treat them like crap. I just wish ALonso would come out and say, " A rookie owned my ****" instead of making up excuses etc.

Fernando Alonso says he looks back on his ill-fated season with McLaren in 2007 as an experience that was "good for my career".

The Spaniard clashed memorably with departed boss Ron Dennis and rookie teammate Lewis Hamilton and negotiated a premature split at the end of the year.

"2007 was very difficult but I learnt a lot personally," the 28-year-old, now regarded as a favourite for the title with Ferrari in 2010, said in an interview with Britain's Guardian newspaper.

"It was good for my career to take that step of joining McLaren and growing up. I learned how to work with a team and also to withstand the media pressure.

"Now I am much more prepared for everything in formula one -- and in life as well," he said, insisting that his only role in the spygate scandal was being "in the wrong place at the wrong time".

Alonso said it is possible that Jenson Button, who has similarly joined McLaren as the reigning world champion to be Hamilton's teammate, will encounter similar problems.

"Obviously I don't know how McLaren is now but if Jenson arrived in my time then, for sure, it would be very tough for him," he said.

"But, hopefully, it's now better for Jenson because I learned a lot from that season and McLaren did as well."

Alonso also played down reports that his relationship with new Ferrari teammate Felipe Massa is strained.

"After so many years of course I have battled with Felipe," he said. "It's the way it is -- and we'll keep having these fights.

"But Michael Schumacher and Rosberg will have fights at Mercedes. I am sure Lewis and Jenson Button will have fights at McLaren.

"Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel will have fights at Red Bull -- in fact they were fighting last year already. But no one talks about this. They talk about it with Ferrari because we are in a good position," he added.

Alonso has also given a wide-ranging interview to Spain's El Mundo newspaper, in which he confirmed that he still talks with his manager Flavio Briatore "every 15 days".

He also said he is not ready to follow Massa into fatherhood.

"No, because I am dedicated to my work 100 per cent," said Alonso. "I look forward to it one day, obviously, but my priority right now is something else."

Alonso tackled suggestions he is loved by his fans but also disliked by many other legions of F1 followers.

"Those who criticise me are people who have never met me," he said.

"In most cases it's online, that's where the anti-Alonsistas are. They're anti-everything.

"The Alonsistas are at the Valencia circuit, where there were 36,000 at a test to follow my Ferrari debut. 36,000 there, and the others on an internet forum. It doesn't worry me," Alonso insisted.

He said those who meet him often remark that he is "nicer than I seem, (nicer) than my image. I like to hear that".

Alonso also confirmed that his past experiences at McLaren and Renault have prepared him well for his arrival at Ferrari.

"I'm calmer, more mature and at peace with myself. I'm ready for any challenge," said the 2005 and 2006 world champion.
