Offical Grand-Am GT RX-8 Thread
Yeah 24 hours is a LONG time. Very few cars will get through it without at least minor mechanical issues. Given that the #70 car had the fastest qualifying time and has previously proven quite reliable for endurance races, I think they have a decent shot. Just keep it steady, no further problems or mistakes, and I think it can happen.
That said, I had to leave home for a while, is there anyplace I can watch it streaming live online??? All they have on the official SPEED website is a few 5-minute clips.

oh, and after looking at the timing site again, the 70 team is consistently running some of the fastest laps in GT class! they've really only lost less than 10 more laps to the overall lead since being back on the track!
Wut?

He's not racing GPs. GT leader is 7 laps off overall pace. 69 is 31 laps off (24 behind GT leader), and the 70 is 48 laps off (41 off leader).
Lots can happen in this race but more than likely they'll just be going for position in the series now.

The 69 car has actually been gaining spots pretty steadily (17th last i looked) with the 70 climbing at a slower pace but hey, they are coming alive. I hope i have to eat my words from an earlier post
I have never followed this race the entire way through, i am starting to see what you fellas are talking about with regards to being able to rebound.
Row faster, I hear banjos

+1 I saw that as well. I think Sylvain has the fastest lap of the race in the GT class and is consistently turning laps on par or faster than the GT class leaders. He's cutting into that lead slowly but surely...
Porsche pretty much has this thing on lock for the GT class. SpeedSource is still 41 laps behind. That works out to almost 1.4 hours of track time (if my math is right). Race does still have 18 hours left and the 8 only gaining a couple seconds, it will take failures of the top three Porsches for Mazda to take the win.
But, you never know what's gonna happen. Maybe Porsches new builds won't hold up to the endurance!!!

As of 3AM EST:
Speedsource #69 = 12th in class
Racer's Edge #30 = 13th in class
Speedsource #70 = 18th in class
They keep moving up! Unfortunately 12th is still ~25 laps behind the GT-class leader, which is quite a long distance. Still, they're headed in the right direction, and the race is barely half over. They can do this....

Heartbreak for Mazda #2
Heartbreak strikes Mazda again early in the Rolex 24. The #69 Speed Source FXDD/ Rum Bum Mazda had a unintended meeting with the rear of the #63 TRG Porsche.
The damage - a bent suspension that necessitated a trip behind pit wall to make the repairs.
Repairs took 24 laps to complete dropping the team to just outside the top twenty.
In what is a the only bit of good news for the Mazda contingent is that the #70 RX-8 has effected their repairs (replacing the fuel cell) and has made it back on track, albeit 49 laps down.
