I cant wait for next year's race. I forsee it'll be Porsche vs Mazda, with SS leading the pack of 8s, well and the two G6s (GM factory backed), I dont think any new teams will join the G6s boat tho.
i hope not. im so tired of seeing ponti i wonder if we will see the playboy 350z returning to the rolex

Oh forgot to mention this earlier. Did anyone hear how one of the announcers durring a interview mentioned Ford coming into the series next year. Does anyone know anything about this? Is it complete factory backed and if so are they sporting a Shelby or a GT version (most like just badging I know lol).

Man, I missed the race, and haven't seen the footage yet. But...

This is the kind of accident and mistake that make me so angry. This is one of the FIRST things they teach you at the track, if you go off, watch the corner worker, and do not return to the track on the driving line. 3 people got killed at a t Track event for someone making this mistake last year. I was at VIR over labor day weekend and there was almost a big accident due to the same mistake.

I hope they fine this guy, and suspend him as well. This kind of mistake cannot continue to happen. Thank god Nick is ok. RIP #70, looks like I'll be keeping my avatar much longer

The Gallardo should be interesting to say the least.

I believe its gonna be Ford backed where as the mustang currently running is most likely part of the Boy Racer program (last I remember it being called that is) bought race cars. Also Porsche next year is gonna be backing a DP car, they ran in the race with a quickly put together car and it ran alright from what I remember seeing. They where a dead give away though what with the headlights lol

I dont think so. The 3.5L V6 and the 4.5L V8 are not reliable engines. Infiniti blew a few at Daytona and 350Zs were on the entry list for many races, they practiced but missed the race every time. We might not see one race until Nissan backs a team to develop the car and engine. I would like to see a competitive 350Z mixing it up with the RX-8. I want to see more Japanese makes in the series, and get a field large enough to seperate away from the diminishing DP field.

I just hope the DP class doesnt get any bigger. I do like seeing them race but at times they focus sooooooo much on them and ignore the GT class, I still remember Daytona where they just ignored 'em till the race was passed over to Speed Channel for the night. Sure it was because of the big names but jesh.

Also the accident at yesterdays race just shows that the growing field of DP class especialy by Rookie Drivers is a major saftey problem. That and half the accidents this seasons that I seen where that of DP and GT class cars mixing it up.

There is something in common between two major crashes in the race. MCM- Matt Connelly Motorsport

MCM Prototype killed the #70 RX-8

MCM GTO caused the accident at the end of the race, when the Farnbacher Porsche passed the Ponti G6. The GTO was lapped by who knows how many laps, it didnt see the porsche outside him and ran into it.

HaHa - I went to the races at Barber Motorsports park. We saw the Playboy team in the paddock. They had 4 cars - one burned in practice, one blew up in practice, one didn't make it out to the warmup up lap for the race, and one showed up late for the warmup lap.
Just as it went out of sight to head back toward the start/finish for the start of the race we saw a huge cloud of smoke, and never saw it again. 4 cars = 0 official laps.

BTW - Nick and the SS team signed a bunch of stuff for us. Great guys.

So here is a quick question I hope someone can answer.
How many teams are officaly factory backed? and if so by what factories? I know Pontiac and Mazda (well Mazdaspeed) sponsor teams is that it? Be nice to see a renisance(sp?) of factory backed racing. I know that Chevy and Cadillac sponsors teams in the speed world challenge but be nice to get 'em all in one racing series.

Oh and I didnt know that the 350Z's sponsored by Playboy were doing that horrible. Thats just wow.. amazing.

He is a huge Panoz fan, owning several. He also raced in a Panoz and Miata series back in the day.

He also drove the pace car at the Indy 500 this year.

I am from Atlanta, so everyone associated with Panoz has a special place in my heart

I feel like crying

But behind the accomplishments lingers the memory of cutting up the 3-time race winning car and loading it onto the trailer on carpet dollies. Perhaps the search for explanation is best left behind on the track.

On a positive note

SpeedSource heads into a busy off-season. Building a new No. 70 GT RX-8 is a top priority, and the shop is also finishing additional GT chassis to be announced for 2008. SpeedSource is currently taking additional orders for 2008 deliveries.

Anyone think it is possible for Speedsource to field 3 cars for Daytona 24? To get that last Endurance race victory for Mazda.

i know this has nothing to do with Rolex series, but did any one watch the first lap of last weekend F1? and if so, what did you think if Alonso trying to run off his own team mate hamilton off track on the first turn. god i dislike alonso.

It would be a nice win for Speedsource, but not the first one at Daytona for Mazda.

so #40 and #44 is new

and I am suspecting this is another new team fielding the RX-8

They fielded a 996 GS in 2003, I havent found an entry by this team in this year's race (actually looked at a few only)

and they're called Zoom Motorsports!

http://www.grand-am.com/Messageboard...ts.asp?ID=5656

then there is the one John Doonan mentioned in the interview, which didnt sound like its the #44 Apontos Bro. I forgot the name of the race team already, did anyone else catch that?

this is from 7 years ago

Aponte Bros team competed in the GrandAm when Team Spencer + Downing Atlanta fielded the Mazda 4-rotor Kudzu

This team is no stranger to peripheral ported racing rotaries!
