As I thought the Rotary as we know it is gone for sometime, if not forever...

I even extend this to the 16X...Just won't happen..

At least one that uses Petroleum fuel.

IF we see or hear anything it is at least 2 years away as the RX-8 will still be sold in Japan until 2013 and possibly Australia.

Remember 2013 was the ORIGINAL production end date for the RX-8, April 2013 in fact.

With China being the worlds largest car market now, up almost 2000% in just over a decade or from 1 million to 19 million units a year.

Gas is set to start going WAY up again, because of demand.
Already at $90 a barrel.

Anyway, don't believe me.??..

Why would they have posted a question on their facebook page the other day to ask about what people want to see in the new RX if they aren't planning for a new R in the RX.

 

Honestly, i trust more into Japanese top executives speechs (Yamanouchi & Kanai)..they have always talked about a future for Rotary, but the car is long way off.......

I hope Mazda doesnt drop the rotary. I do see that the market for it may not be there. General public's perception of poor performance. bad gas milage and unrealiability doesnt help. Perceptions are not based on facts most of the time, but that doesnt matter. It will be a huge hill for Mazda to get over.

This guy has no say in what's going on, he's just the European sales boss although it's a nice title I doubt he's in charge or what gets made or not.

But unfortunately if they can't get emissions down (which IS and issue), if they cant improve MPG, which they are not seeing with DI, then with a Crap US economy, you just wont see anything...SADLY.

The rotary "may" have a future but not as a sole Petrol ONLY engine, dual fuel maybe.

One last Opinion, Mazda this time Will just not Risk it, now they are basically on their own, they have made Nothing out of the 8, and are Very disappointed at Series 2sales...straight from a local Mazda Australian worker.

The similarities with the 70's oil crisis is just so familiar or me (I worked through that at Mazda), the only difference is Mazda and Dealers don't have 3 different rotary models and stock they can't sell both at the showroom and wholesale.

They have been very careful not to overfill distributors worldwide with any stock that is not selling.

We had a 13B RX-4 Auto that had nearly 2 birthdays before it was finally sold!

1) The Mazmart dude here has said they have people working on the next rotary
2) The car wasn't EVER coming before 2015 > anyway, that's just been silly rumours. They have already set the cycle for what cars are coming, and it was horribly unlikely that there would be room for a rotary there.

However, it must have MAJOR emissions saving compared to the Renesis to ever come out, no doubt. We gotta pray some mad Americans persist so there's a market otherwise Otherwise they'd have to make it more like a one off, that's not something Mazda would do though, they make affordable cars.

There's definitely a market, but high CO2 = insane prices here. Which is why RX-8 wasn't sold after 2008 due to costing $130,000

Mazda has been focusing on small cars for a few years. so far its doing fairly well.

I got a Mazda 3 not because I like Mazda, because I compared it with most of the other cars around the same price range, for me Fun factor comes before MPG so I picked Mazda3.

its not as fuel efficient as most Toyota/Honda, that I know. Gas is already "3.4" per gallon now, and thats just "Regular", Premium cost 3.6-7. Good thing the Mazda3 (like most Econ car) use Regular. Im ok.

Ok, the 2009-10 version of 16x dont' meet top managment expectations for performances, emissions an cosumption.

they have said (pasts months) that they are working NOW to meet those goals (Kanai).

we'll see a car only in 2014 IMHO

 

By 2014, we will be on the precipice of ZLEV and a rotary will never accomplish that while producing any usable torque.

 

Banned? Don't think so. But here it's just very expensive due to CO2 emissions, so they stopped selling it long ago.

The thing is though, that if they managed to sort out the cruising and low speed emissions, and cheated a bit like the other manufacturers do, then I think we could get a rotary. But I'm thinking it's more likely it'll compete with FT-86 than a GT-R

We all want a 3 rotor killer car, but ain't gonna happen is it.
