Essentially the same bs... most these auto news sites have had a "source from mazda" that gave them information of a soon to be announced rx car.

I think the game these guys play is that if they say there will be (X)-car released and that some anonymous source told them, then they're covered. If the car never comes out, people forget and move on. If it does come out, then it looks like they knew what they were talking about.

except one thing- that article was written by Sam Mitani. First Journo to drive the RX-8 prototype and the production RX-8 AND the only Journo to drive the white "renegade" supercharged MNAO RX-8

I would never have known/noticed that. If that's the case, then it could have a bit more substance behind it, but as far as what the article presents, it's essentially the same as all the others that have written articles on the same topic.

Based on past experience, I'm not going to be convinced until zoom hints at the existence of something. You never get a full story, but you understand that there is something to expect.

this is the best looking artist concept sketch, love the lines from the furai! Just not a fan of the mirrors.

While the author has good credentials and may know what he is talking about. I don't see Mazda using this design. There isn't enough of the current corporate look in the car that they just changed the rest of the fleet to.

well its just a conceptual drawing done by an art house for r&t. basically sam said "can you illustrate for us a kabura with a bunch of furai and taiki in it?" and they got this back.

I concur. I'd drive it for sure.

This article, when combined with the other credible ones seems to indicate that they don't have a 'solid' plan as yet but might be closer to green light than before. It would be shocking to see an RX7 before 2013 MY (If at all).

Paul.

By far the best looking RX-? rendering I've seen. Lighter than FD + 16X = win.

I feel like I'm the only one here that doesnt like this rendering. Its got too much of an egg shape overall. It's a bit too contemporary for me. It may look different once I saw one in person.

All of the Rx-7s have been classic looking sports cars. 2 door, long hood, small overhangs, low and wide. Even the Rx-8 retains those elements with the added doors. This rendering has too much of an I Robot feel to it. I would not buy this model even with the 16x. Id rather swap in a 20b into an rx8 or 7 and leave it as such.

Mazda better come out with a RX (?) something.

Porsche is coming with a baby boxster for under 40.

VW is coming with a diesel on the same chassis.

Audi is coming with a R4.

Mazda needs a new RX and a new miata to compete.

i can proudly say that it was sam mitani's article in 2002 about his test drive of a pre-production rx-8 in japan (yellow rx-8 graced the cover) that introduced me to the '8, and i immediately joined this forum.

...i was also in high school then. now i'm in grad school. god time flies.

I know what you mean. The first time i was introduced to the 8 was in a Mazda commercial. I asked my dad what a rotary engine was so he drew up a rough sketch on a little napkin and said its nothing but a Japanese gimmick. That was back when in 03. I believe i was 15 or 16. Fast forward to 2009 I'm signing the papers on an 04 VR GT 6spd with red two tone interior. Total that car literally days after having 2 new keys made. Next up 05 Black Cherry Shinka. I f*ckin love that car. I was drawn by the allure of driving a unique product. All RX models have always been edgy but true to sports car heritage. This new rendering is hideous. Definitely not downgrading to that unless its a land rocket right out of the box with some real personality
