Funny i just saw this ad last night and thought "That can't have been an FD...my eyes must be going."

Now i know it's just an ad and all that, but to suggest a legend like the FD would bow to the new Eclipse is pretty odd.

The only reason anyone here or on any of the other rotary forums even noticed the commercial in the first place was because it had a bowing FD in it. If it weren't for that no one here would be talking about it. What Eclipse? All I saw was an FD.

No, an "effective ad campaign" makes people go out and buy the product. This commercial has certainly convinced no one here to buy an Eclipse- it's made everyone make fun of Mitsu even more than before. Completely the opposite of what the commercial is trying to do. Talk about an ad means nothing- taking action because you actually found something useful in an ad is everything.

The funny thing is that Mitsu is selling these new Eclipses in pretty good numbers. There's a performance shop at the Mitsu dealership I bought my Evo. I talk to those guys 2 or 3 times a month and lately all they've been telling me about is how well the Eclipse is selling. For the uber enthusiasts like us who post on car message boards, putting "FWD" and "performance" into the same sentence is laughable. 90% of people could care less though. That includes casual enthusiasts.

People seem to be gettting pretty worked up over the commercial, when it's just that. Companies take shots at competitors in ads all the time. Look at Dodge trucks and SUV's taking on exotic sports cars. Or Infiniti poking fun at the new 3 series' HP numbers.

I doubt consumers take them seriously.

I think it's almost as bad as saturn taking a shot a BMW. Talk about a bad comparison.

a 1st gen miata doesn't bow down to that piece of sh*t. No RWD car does. I compare tht car to the chevy monti carlo, its like they take a big sedan, chop off two doors, and call it a sports car.

There are some fun FWD coupes, such as the Mini and the RSX, but this is a joke. I don't care how fast it goes in a straight line is it handles like my grandma lincoln.

It's funny how some people get worked up because of a commercial. IT'S JUST AN AD. Are you supposed to really take it that seriously? I thought it is a really good concept, regardless of what cars are bowing to the Eclipse. It generates a lot of attention and it's spreading to every visitor of this thread who hasn't watched it on TV; and without spending any more money than putting it on TV. The guys who made the ad should get a raise :D

While I agree this commercial is getting tons of exposure, it isn't always a good thing. Now, I know the rotary community is not a big group, however, the purpose of a good commercial should peek one's curiousity, gaining enough interest to entice someone to actually go down to the dealer to check the car out. All this commercial did was **** one particular group off enough that I doubt there will be many, if any, eclipse sales to RX7/8 owners. Again not a big group, but why would you want to **** off anyone when you would rather sell them a car.

That's what I don't understand. I think most people here already made up their mind not to buy it, after being unimpressed by the review or the specs. Some even hated the car (what have the car done to them?). Do you think they'll buy the car if there's an ad showing the Eclipse bowing to the RX-7/8 instead?

Saw the commercail for the first time today and I couldn't believe my eyes. Never should an FD bow down to any Eclipse! I guess Mitsu is still angry that the RX-7 was much better of a performance car than the 3000GT .
