considering how pumped i was when at the frankfurt auto show for the new 6 this one is little disappointing, looks like the cut manufacturing costs by making the neater things like the headlights smaller, what can you expect from a car made at a ford plant in detroit

its not made in Detroit- its made at the flat rock plant
weird- i had another post there where i said "ooooh its that the lower outside corner of the headlight is at a steaper angle on the US versus the euro version which is nearly parallel to the ground
pleae remember im using paint and have never copped to having mad skillz .
here's my 1 minute paint rework of the headlights

the headlights are at a steeper angle on the US version. Judging by the photos, it looks like the angle is because the car is narrower and taller (Or maybe just taller). Maybe they wanted to give it more headroom for the US population, but the result looks like a cheap econo box.

This isn't scientific by any means, but here is my logic:
I took both photos of the cars, and rotated them straight. I wanted to compare and see if one was taller than the other. The problem is, I can't assume the body proportions are the same. So I can't measure the distance of the hood, or use the mazda logo as a constant as both might be scaled to match the resulting body.
What I did was take the front driverside wheel and copy it on top of the original wheel. Since it appears to both be the same size and type, and both of them are directly over the front windshield, it's the closest thing I can get to a measuring stick - especially since the angle of both photos are not the same (so I can't just overlay one photo over the other).
Here's the result -- the US tire doesn't reach the top of the windshield, while the other does.

eh, I'm in the disappointed camp too. But for me, it has to do with the fact that it seems like Mazda NA abandoned anything to do with the "flow" design language. The Euro / JDM versions seem to have the some elements the recent design philosophy sculpted in. But the north american version has those elements reworked to the wrong way, and it's just enough that it falls into the bland category.
sad... now I'll have to see what the next gen Mazda3 looks like.

well I happen to like it more then my Speed 6 in looks. I guess it's subjective, but I actually like the looks. It has more of a classy expensive look to it. Not too shabby.

That's a good point, I think 6 months from now when I see it in person in a showroom, it will look like a handsome car. When official photos come out I'm sure it will look good too, and Mazda still may add one or two more things to the car.

Not only it doesn't look as good as the Mazda6 in other markets, ALL of the NA Mazda6 will now be made in the US. That, is the biggest turn off, I was hoping to get into a hatchback 2.5L AWD version, too bad Mazda.
