Question New Gen Mitsubishi EVO?

Anyone see the new 4G63? Well its not going to have a 4G63 due to its weight and emissions issuews but Mitsu will not be going the way of the Eclipse. The new power plant will still be boosted and will feature an aluminum block 2.0. Also improved is the all wheel drive and the super AWC system which combined with the lighter motor are good for a much better cornering car. I see this small pic inside the new Super Street mag on page # 78. It looks cool.

Guys, this news is really old and there have already been a few threads on the Evo X...

There is a test mule floating around that looks like a current Evo but is basicly the Evo X handling wise. Word is it handles better. That has nothing to do with the new engine and everything to do with improved AYC (active yaw control), S-WAC (super all wheel control), ACD (active center diff), and the addition of an active braking system.

As much as I hate Edmunds, here's their take on it plus a video.

If you want to see some more photos of the concept car do a search for Evo X and you'll find a bunch.

Look for the new car to be about 320hp but not take as well to mods or at least not be as strong when modding because of the new engine and more intrusive ECU.

So, it's driven by computers?

Yes, which at first is disappointing, but from everything I've seen and heard it's not intrusive in the least (the current systems certainly aren't). You can still get the car sideways if you want, and you never even realize some high tech gadgets are helping out. The computers help you go faster with the Evo, in most cars they slow you down and are more of a safety thing.

That's the wonderful thing about the Evo, it feels so raw and connected yet it's very sophisticated. I was worried at first the Evo X would be too tame, but things are looking good so far. We'll see if they manage to ruin that raw wonderful feeling of the Evo when the X is released, I really hope not.

Most AWD cars are.
I dont remember anyone complaining of the Skyline R34 GTRs ATESSA (SP?) System.

Amazing stuff for its time.

I think Mitsubishi is trying to make the new one handle like the SH-AWD on the Honda Legend, individual torque distribution to every wheels. Check out the VTEC Club Volume 3, unintrusive too

I guess you haven't heard me talking about the Skyline. I don't like computers in cars (save for engine management), I never have. However, I've never driven the EVO or the Skyline. Though I think the Skyline is overhyped, overweight and overpriced. The EVO is something I think I might like, but I'm weary of computers taking the feel away.

I wonder how much of the new AWD technology will find its way onto the USDM Evo X. Mitsu has a knack for leaving off some of the goodies the Euros and Japs get on their Evos.

I would think if its a computer that manages the handling it would be easier to tweek it.
