New Camaro and Challenger

In 2008 and 2009 Dodge will be relaesing the new Challenger and Chevy will be releasing the new Camaro.

What do you guys think about these two gorgeous looking machines? Personally, I would go and get the Challenger. I think it looks badass and just plan intimidating!

I have to admit, the look brings back a lot of old memories. Take a close look at the wheels.

If I were to get one, I'd go for the Camaro. It's better looking, gets better gas mileage, and should sound AWESOME.

ok realistically, how can anyone say this

looks better than this??

now granted i was able to get much better shots of the challenger than the camaro, but thats because the whitetrash at the camaro didnt know what a camera was and kept getting in my way. where as the redneck mopar fans had already forgotten about the challenger at the oc auto show and not to mention chevy got the wifes and kids away to sit and take free pictures in the corvette convertible so the dads could stay and say "now we can whoop that new mustang" and that was a direct quote from the la autoshow.

I like the Camaro better simply because its LESS retro, I hate retro with a passion and thus, like the Camaro better.

But now remember when the mustang concept came out and people thought it was hot and then the production version had more plastic and the design wasnt a good. Well im afraid that will happen to these cars as well. To keep cost down they will use plastic and crap all over the interior and make it ugly and cheap. Please prove me wrong!

The Challenger is just too retro for me, I like contemporary styling. I'll be keeping my eye on several cars a few years from now an a Camaro Convertible is one of them.

If Chevy ditches the idea of making the V6 model Camaro I'm going to seriously consider one when they're released. Rumor has it they (Chevy and Chrysler) can't figure out how to make a V6 model and get it close to the price of the V6 Stang while still turning a profit.

The Challenger will be one heavy pig and the Camaro will be way under powered.

You will have to wait 2 or 3 additional years for the SS to get any decent power.

Wanna bet? They're putting an LS2 in it. If the GTO can get a vette engine, I don't see why the new Camaro can't. Besides the Camaro concept was unveiled with an LS2 in it.

I like the camero... it looks cool.

**** dodge - the only car I would ever want to own of theirs is the Viper.

To go from a light nimble rotary powered car to a big hulking beast of muscle - can't say I'm interested. Sure you can go fast and burn up people at stop lights but who cares. I can see how this car would appeal a whole lot to (no offense) the older owners who had the originals and would now have the newest generation of a classic.

The thing with the (new) Mustang GTs, Cameros, Challenger whatever - they all turn out to be way to common. The new retro Mustang GT thats out - i see fat 45 year old bithes behind the wheel of these things all too often, same thing will happen with these cars.

Give me light, nimble, and partially exotic :-p not these hulking heavyweights.

We have talked about all of this often, but why not some more...

I love my 8, but once she is paid off I too will look into the Camaro. As long as the backseat can hold normal people (like the 8 can) for short to medium drives and it's affordable. I think it looks modern-retroish and looks MEAN which is the way I likes me sports cars.

Yeah, the Dodge will be a FAT PIG (4K for a sports car, COME ON MAN....geeezzzzz) and from what I hear the Camaro will be no more than 3.5K (more than I'd like but not 4K).

Who knows...Maybe the next RX8, lol lol lol.....I can't even finish the statement without laughing at myself. Poor 8...it seems it will never get the love it deserves from her daddy Mazda.

Oh, by the way I think the Camaro needs a V6, and TWO V8's to maximize the amount of potential buyers. Personally, I'd be the Z28 buyer with the 350HP V8. I could always stick a SC on the sucker.

I'd wager money that Chevy will put about a base model with a V6. They just won't move the volume they need to otherwise to make a good business case. Goingt o be very insteresting in a couple of years:

Evo X
New STI
Camaro
Challenger
Redesigned Mustang
Redesigned 350z

I saw both cars in person within about 5 days of eachother, and I can definitly say they look almost exactly the same, except one is a Dodge, and one is a Chevy. They both have this 'Neo-retro' design that to me looks unfinished, and theyre both very LARGE machines which leads me to believe that Dodge and Chevy still dont care to make these cars anything more than straight line queens.

In the end I still believe the next gen Japanees sports cars will outperform and outstyle these two Haulking pieces of 'American Muscle'.
Dont get me wrong, I love me some Detroit steel, Ive got a 69' Impala. But American car makers need to get with it and realize that there is more to going fast than 0-60 times and raw HP/TQ. Ill be very interested to see how these two cars do on the skid pad and what kind of lap times they put up... who knows, maybe they have worked out a balance between handleing and HP this go around, but after the past decade of GM products I have little faith.

The Chevy Camaro be underpowered?

An 02 Camaro Z28 STILL has more Horsepower than brand new Mustang GT. Camaro's have almost always been the more powerful car...I promise you it will not be underpowered. It's goign to be a dumbed down Corvette LS2...so probably at least 350HP, if history proves correct. I'm pretty sure the 02 Corvette had 375HP while the Camaro with the same engine made 315 according to GM.

I think GM will get it right. Look at their new SUVs and trucks. The interiors are lightyears better than the outgoing models as well as everything else about them. GM is on the way back, just a couple more years.

American cars have always been big. That's what sells. My buddy has an 05 Roush Mustang and I swear that thing is twice the size of my car. Fast as **** though....in a straight line...

But I'm biased, like everyone else in the world. Always been a GM family and as soon as this new Camaro comes out I'll have my name on the list for one...sorry...I love my 8 but a Camaro is what I really want.

Well, in some things but overall I don't think they will outperform. Maybe the Evo X and STI but not the 350Z, S2000 (going to be killed I hear), or RX-yeah right, lol.

They will have independent suspensions which will help and it's not like the Mustang, it's live axel and all, is horrible handling wise.

We all have to wait and see I guess.
