New Camaro and Challenger
You still thinking about getting a Camaro?
If the rear seats are useless...then I don't know. Frankly, don't build a 2+2 if it's more like a 2.5 (the .5 comprised of both rear seats combined). That has never made sense to me, but looks wise and engine wise the Camaro looks great.
Price and rear seats will make or break the deal for me when the time comes. I love my 8, but I'd like to own at least one 8 (V8) before fuel economy worries kill it off (perhaps) one day.
Oh, and what Mazda does with the RX8 and what the EVO does with it's price/looks will also play a part in my next car (only after I pay off the RX8). Oh yeah...and if GM builds a RWD Sports Sadan with the LS2.
Well...and my fascination with the A4 might have a say or two. So, it's safe to say that my mind is open...lol.

Of course, at the rate they're losing money it won't matter much longer anyways. They keep designing crap like this instead of classy, elegant cars they'll just break up as a company and be another American icon industry that couldn't overcome it's own inbred inertia.
If Chevy produces a Camaro very similar to the concept (roof is going to have to go up several inches) they will sell several boatloads. A fine looking machine with cues from the past and a modern distinctive style.

The Challenger & this Camaro are both pretty obvious attempts at drawing in the baby boomer $$ as they are heading into their twilight. Gangstas like me who like this "modern classic" style are just bonus $$ for GM. Well, not really, since I doubt I'll have the $$ to get this beast w/o giving up my 8 - and that's not happening. Instead, I'll just borrow my dad's! lol.
I do agree with you that there is very little vision in the US car industry, and that's prlly what started the retro movement. It'll be interesting to see what the designs do over the next few years, as people start to look for something that can actually be called "new" and "different".

The picture I compared the new Camaro to falls in the era that you just showed, the one in my picture is a 1969.
Designing for the gangsta hip-hop crowd? Alright, then. To each his own.
It definitely has cues of the old Camaro's, not of the last body style.
Opinions are like a--holes, everybody has one.
I'm personally waiting for the Nissan GT-R which is finally arriving in the U.S. Should be around 2008. This baby will have a twin turbo V6. That will produce 500 bhp! I have owned my share of muscle cars including.
77 Trans AM - Smokey and the Bandit
69 SS EL Camino
99 Trans Am WS6
All gave me problems. However, with the older cars. I could fix them myself. These new ones that are due out.....Good Luck after the dinky 3 year warranty runs out.
