I hate heavy *** cars. Though the Z isnt all THAT heavy in first place, is nice to see it trimmed down to where it should have been in first place. Credit where it is due, im all for it.

Huh? The Miata is between 2300 and 2500lbs. The base 350z coupe is 3300lbs. And no one is gonna consider the 350z a tad bigger in size than a Miata.

The fact that Nissan may put in a V-8 into a car around 3000 lbs is going to make this a serious performer.
The weight specs of ~3100 are for the 370z v6 (and I don't think they've been confirmed, have they?). If they're putting a V8 in a special ed. then that is obvioulsy going to go up significantly and I doubt they're gonna put it in a base body so there will be more weight added with the additional appearance parts, bigger wheels, etc. that normally go on a special edition.

Not to mention that Nissans current v8 doesn't look like it's going to be able to produce much more total power than the specs for the 370z's v6 are already said to be producing so we're talking about Nissan likely needing a new V8...

Lower weight and more horses in the 370z are something to be complimented. That's what we're all hoping for the next-gen RX. But if they're going the opposite route with a special edition then Nissan obviously isn't getting it.

YMMV.

More will do so now because of gas prices and CAFÉ requirements. The fact that Nissan may put in a V-8 into a car around 3000 lbs is going to make this a serious performer. Hell 330 hp and 3,100hp is plenty. Look at the reviews of the 135 with 300hp and 3,300-3,400 lbs (probably makes more than listed but still). I found the 135 to be more than fast enough for me.

I don’t really find the 350z to be the RX8’s competition; it only has two seats so for many that makes it not an option. My purpose in posting the news was well its news and many here talk about the 350z and I believe in giving credit where credit is due. Good job Nissan, by making your product better you encourage everyone else to do the same.

IF Mazda gets the 16x to market, IF they put it in a light-weight 2 seater or 2+2 then it should be competitive with what is coming out on the market for 2009. So when is the debut of the 16x again?
Agreed! I wish Mazda had brought more incremental changes to the 8 the way Datsun has done with the z, but the sales numbers just did not justify it and it's not Mazda's small company business model. Remember, folks, you heard it here first: 3,100 hp!

Why is everyone assuming its a production V8 that will go into this 370Z. It's obviously going to have alot more horsepower than the 3.7 motor in order to sell, so the current line up (and HP numbers) isn't being considered.

I think it's great for the Z. Losing weight. In the past, the 350z always rank lower in the agility department when compared to the rx8 despite more power.
Putting a V8 (assuming it will not upset the handling further and negate the weight loss) would be stunning! It will be a formidable car to the 911s let alone the weak sauce RX-8.
I am wondering however is normally the G-coupe and the Z are twins. Why is the G-coupe getting heavier and no V8?

its pretty apparent that Nissan dominated this generation of the japanese sports car market, they sold a lot of Zs and made a lot of money. Im looking forward to the next gen and Toyota joining. competition means better cars for everyone.

Larger means dimensions not weight, that would be heavier, we all know the miata is a light weight especially by today’s standards. I can’t imagine adding a new V-8 would add much more than another 200lbs so it would be the weight of the current 350z but with probably 375-400hp. No reason to make a V-8 model if it’s only 30hp more than a v-6 and significantly increases the weight, car manufacturers know this.

None of this is confirmed as of yet. The production 370 z V-6 will be shown in LA this year. Personally the stock 370z if its 3,100lbs and 330hp should be more than sufficient and will probably be priced similar to the 350z so a good value as well.

Now if GM would put an LS engine in the Solstice coupe…crazy.

people have speculated about a v8 Z and G for years now, i dont think they are really going to do it, theres really not much point considering their targeted market segment. they are in the business of making cheap sports cars, a v8 Z would not sell well and they already have the GT-R. in the end the bottom line is all about the $$$

^ they were tested a supercharged version a couple years ago. It seems that nissan is interested in an up scale rare version of the Z but has yet to pull the trigger

holy crap thank you!! i was going crazy reading comment after comment abt nissan's current v8 and the added weight!! all we can do is speculate, and although the z has always been relatively heavy, i think we can safely assume that nissan is not stupid -- they're not just going to take the v8 from the m45 and drop it in the z ... it could be a completely different v8 -- and they wouldn't take the time and effort to PUT a v8 in the z if it's wasn't different enough from the v6!! i mean, if they changed the v6 from 3.5 to 3.7 and increased it 50hp or however much over the past few years, you've gotta assume they'd do something similar w/ the v8. i'd expect a v8 z to be at least 380 if not 400 hp. and more than likely the v8 will weigh more, but not necessarily ... bmw m3's new v8 weighs less than the old in-line 6!!

now, what i'd REALLY like to see, is to leave the z as a v6 only, and make a decked out line of infiniti's ... a g35 sedan and coupe w/ a v8, decked out to compete against audi's rs line, bmw's m line, etc. THAT would be refreshing!! i don't see a a point in offering numerous engine version so the z...

yeah i agree, from a business strategy standpoint it makes much more sense to put a high output version of the 4.5L v8 in the infinitis

I heard it's coming out in 2011. The reasons why the Z and 8 are compared so much is because of the previous models that they replace. Also the pricing of both cars, the pricing is in the same ball park and the performance is similar. If Nissan puts a v8 in the new Z then I think Mazda should make a limited edition FI RX. I can't wait for the new Renesis.

Putting a V8 in the Z would not make a good business venture, look at what a Nismo Z is going for, I stepped in my local Nissan dealership the other day to pick up a filter for my Titan, the out the door sticker on a Nismo Z was 41,900. I am sorry but for a extra 10-12k i will be going to Chevy dealership and getting myself a brand new 430HP Vette. A car that can out run, out handle , and surely best it in all round looks and quality. The quality of late with Nissan is strait Donkey D*ck these days.

Exactly... the GTR sports a twin turbo V6, putting a lower HP V8 in the Z wouldn't make sense at all? I could see the G37 getting a V8 before i see the Z getting it.
G37 is a luxury cruiser Gt , 370Z is going to be a light weight sports car ,where all around performance would be the focus.
