New 370 could get a V8

So droping over 200lbs to be almost the weight of an RX8 while adding another 30hp just isn't enough.

370 is going to be a performer.

From Autoblog:
The crew at 7Tune got a hold of the latest issue of Best Car, and in addition to creating their own full size Z34 Nissan through the use of bondo and stickers, they've got more details on the next iteration of the Z car.

Due to go on sale later this year, likely after an official unveiling at the LA Auto Show, the 370Z will be packing the same 3.7-liter, VQ37HVR V6 found in the Infiniti G37, with output estimated at around 335 hp and 278 lb.-ft. of torque (JDM spec). Best Car spoke with the Z34's Chief of Production, Shinjiro Yukawa, and he revealed that a special edition model is being considered that would significantly raise the performance of the new Z by fitting a V8 underhood.

The new car will come in about 100 kg (220 pounds) lighter than the outgoing model, and equipped with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed sportshift-equipped automatic. Double wishbones will suspend things up front, while a multi-link arrangement will handle duties in the back. The top-spec S and ST versions are expected to roll on upgraded 19-inch wheels, while lower models make due with 18-inch hoops, and Brembo 6-piston front and 4-piston rear brakes will halt forward progress on the high-end models.

As expected, the headlamps will feature the same L-shaped design originally debuted on the new Maxima, while the A-pillar and roof treatment are rumored to ape the lines found on the R35 GT-R. Also expect upswept side windows and more bulbous fenders to round out the exterior makeover.

I don't like the sound of the new 7-speed auto. I was hoping for a DCT and this is almost certainly the new plain-jane auto that's in the Infiniti FX's (and maybe some other models).

the current 4.5L V8 from nissan isnt really make much more than 330hp... the highest hp application of the v8 i think is in the Infiniti M45 making 325hp... thats lower than the 335 from the vq37hvr.

neways at 200lb lighter with 330hp, this thing should be faster than the 335i and the e46 M3

So a 2-seater is almost as light as the RX-8. Is that something to write home about? Can't wait until Mazda resurrects the RX-7 with a 16x. Then we can have a more fair comparison.

With a lower body weight, a strong V8 , it will definitely perform. But also in the article it mentioned those numbers will be for JDM spec. I have a feeling America will get the water down version as always. Power upgrade or not, it still looks ugly to me IMO.

What is with Nissan stealing Mazda wheel design again, they did it for the 05-08 Z cars now the new one that debuts will be sporting the RX-8 R3 rims.... tacky Nissan very tacky.

damn, are you seriously accusing nissan of doing something off of a speculative 3rd party rendering from some artist who has nothing to do with nissan?

Yes , yes and yes!!!!lol! Call me crazy playdoh, i bet you any amount of money those R3 wheels will show up on the next Z. History has proven it with the 05-08 350Z cars, same exact rim style as the Rx-8.

Hey wait... how do you know it that rendering came from a third party or not, that could have came from there design studios out of California.

LOL, the 370 wheels actually are even more like the Mazda3 alloy wheels:

Check back a little farther for those wheels. Here's the Mazda RX-01 concept car from 1995:

Who is comparing? The new Z will outperform the 8, it doesn't matter what's fair or not. I don't see the 16x giving a huge boost of power.

^ Nobody see's if the 16x will give a huge boost or not. There's no telling. *I'm sure it wont' either, but no point in arguing about it when nobody has a clue*

Didn't you notice? The OP was comparing the weight of the new 370 with that of the 8. I'd rather compare a 2-seater 16x with a 2-seater Datsun. Similar class. Is that so hard?

It is very hard when the Mazda doesn't give a damn. More worried about paint colors, concept spaceships for 2030, and extending near-useless powertrain warranties. I'll be very happy to be proven wrong though.

Calling it a Datsun isn't an insult and people compare the Z to the RX-8 all the time. Why would this time be any different? It's not Datsun's fault that the RX-8 has 4 seats and less power.

There's always a point to estimate, and without FI, it's not going to be a powerhouse. But if they do in fact make a lightweight 2-seater, then great. The 2011 countdown continues...while the 350Z outruns the RX-8 and the 370Z is right around the corner.

I didn't mean it as an insult and I never said that it's Datsun's (or Nissan's) fault that the RX-8 has 4 seats. That's absurd. I think it's fabulous that the RX-8 can compare rather favorably with more expensive 2-seater sports coupes with larger engines. But I'm looking forward to Mazda once again having a car in the same class for an even better comparison.

still ugly!!!!!!!!!! whats more impressive than a 1.3L pumping out 230hp n/a??? i'd rather have a 8 with a rotary and less power than a sports car with a altima/morano engine ect.....

Let's make a really inaccurate estimate for the power of the 16X...

1.3L = 232HP

so

1.6L = (232/1.3)*1.6 = 285HP

Which isn't so bad..., since it'll go into what we imagine to be a damned lightweight 2 seater.

And I'm also HOPING that Mazda has learnt their lesson with the Renesis in regards to FI capability. Let's be honest here..., the Renesis isn't exactly a superb platform for FI.

"The 12A engine produced 100 hp (75 kW) at 6000 rpm"
1.3L = (100hp/1.2L)*1.3 = 108.3hp... YEA
1.6L = (100/1.2)*1.6 = 133hp SWEET.

you cant do math like that. you're a bad person and i hate you.

The 16X won't hit 300 hp. I'll be close though. Fortunately rotaries have never had to match competitors hp numbers to be competitive with them.

Based on your 12A-Renesis comparison, you are much worse person and I hate you infinitely more. But, on the other hand, you have a Phantom Blue so you must be a great guy after all.

The 350z is a tad bigger than a Miata and is only 200-300lbs more than a Solstice/Sky. The fact that they are trimming over 200lbs while increasing HP is impressive in this day of everything getting larger and heavier. Mazda is one of the few companies to believe in weight savings. More will do so now because of gas prices and CAFÉ requirements. The fact that Nissan may put in a V-8 into a car around 3000 lbs is going to make this a serious performer. Hell 330 hp and 3,100hp is plenty. Look at the reviews of the 135 with 300hp and 3,300-3,400 lbs (probably makes more than listed but still). I found the 135 to be more than fast enough for me.

I don’t really find the 350z to be the RX8’s competition; it only has two seats so for many that makes it not an option. My purpose in posting the news was well its news and many here talk about the 350z and I believe in giving credit where credit is due. Good job Nissan, by making your product better you encourage everyone else to do the same.

IF Mazda gets the 16x to market, IF they put it in a light-weight 2 seater or 2+2 then it should be competitive with what is coming out on the market for 2009. So when is the debut of the 16x again?
