My RX8 troubles
Hello everyone,
I own a 2004 (technically 2003) RX8 which I bought in 2006 from a used car dealership. I was pretty happy with it. Had a few problems like the computer getting fried which was under warranty, and the spark plug units melting, which I paid for. But for a good 2 years it has been doing great.
Then I drifted it through a barbed wire fence.
The body was basically scratched all over. Had an estimate done on it, and it said between 5 and 9 grand to fix all the cosmetic stuff. But, thankfully nothing mechanically was damaged.
So I have been driving it with no rear bumper, a cracked front bumper, and scratches and dents all over the passenger side of the body. Oh well it was my own fault.
Now, about a week ago, something weird started to happen. The battery light came on, and after 2 days the electronics in the car were going out (radio, power steering, traction control, all that stuff) and then finally it wouldn't start. I got a replacement battery and the guy at the shop said my alternator was fine. So we replaced the battery and it started up alright, but the battery light was still on.
The next day, on my way home from work I got the oil changed, and then it wouldnt start up again. just like last time it was just making the clicking sound like the battery was dead, so the guys over there gave me a jump, and I got down the street when all my electronics went out again, and then the car started freaking out and I couldnt get the RPMs above 2000 even when i was flooring it, and then it died.
I tried jump starting it again, and keeping it revved for a few minutes, then when I tried to drive it away, it did the same thing and died again.
All this to say, I am thinking of just trying to sell it somehow, maybe for parts or something. But I have no idea how to go about doing that. I really did love this car, and the 7 was always a dream car of mine, and I liked the 8. But I just don't think I like it enough to get 8 grand of body work/whatever mechanic work to fix whatever is wrong with it now.
Suggestions? Contemplations? Comforts?
Thanks guys,
-Michael

Sounds like you have a wiring problem..or short somewhere that is draining your battery
Check carefully where your body damage is to see if you have a grounded out power wire..or see if you have a light on all the time..glove box and trunk come to mind as a common problem. Also the NB O2 sensor wiring can cause a problem as well
The ECU is in the front passenger corner..check the wiring
You have to assume that the damage was caused by the accident...so go looking
Shouldn't really be that hard to find

The weird thing is that this problem with the battery started last week, and my accident was in the beginning of February of 2009. So over a year ago. Maybe something finally just came loose. Ill check around.
Thanks for the tips.
Anyone have any tips on how to go about selling parts, or how to get the max money out of the car rather than just selling it to someone who wants to work on it for 4 grand or something.
Thanks again

Yea it's a roller right now basically. Damaged body all over, no rear bumper, blown engine seals. Might want to try selling it as is roller. Otherwise you tear it down and sell parts online.
