MS6 Turbo question...
But can anyone tell me what kind of turbo is expected to be in the Mazdaspeed 6? Maybe some supporting information would be good, too, so we don't get arguments started in here about, I heard, Well he said, and I've got a tip from...
I ask because I was thinking that if one were able to purchase the turbo/intercooler set and with a few additional mods, why wouldn't someone buy the same MZR 2.3 that's in the Mazda3 s and get (roughly) the same 274 (est.) hp. Others had stated on this forum that Mazda will probably 'Speed the M3 first, before the '8, but they would detune it so it isn't EXACTLY the same as the MS6.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Something tells me that it won't be quite so easy to get the MS3 up to the same 274hp as the MS6. I'd be willing to be that, much like what they did with the MSP, Mazda doesn't upgrade the internals in the MZR for the MS3 application -- for only 220hp you really don't need to. It's a good way to cut the cost so it can meet its' pricepoint effectively.

I just want to see if it can be done... So does this mean no one knows...

Seeing that they're the same engine there's no reason why it couldn't be done. Anything can be done with enough money. But will it yield the same results as the MS6? Not even close. Would be it be easy? Not at all. But no one knows exactly the setup that the MS6 is going to get.
You'd be far better off buying a regular aftermarket turbo rather than one that is meant to just be bolted on and ran off a factory ECU, with upgraded internals and, perhaps more importantly, direct injection. There's just too many additional features added on to the MZR in the MS6 to attempt to bolt that turbo straight on. It can be done. It would probably go on with little trouble. But getting it to run and then trying to get power out of it are two entirely different things.

you cannot simply put the turbo stuff from the MS6 on the the Mazda 3 even though the engines have the same displacement. The major difference is that the MS6 engine has direct-injection. something that is definately not on the Mazda 3 engine. If you want a good turbo kit for the 3 (as in 290 whp and 316 lb ft of torque) go check out the Hiboost kit that is being worked on.

Yeah, as Iggy mentioned, the MS6 has direct injection, while the 3 doesn't. Compression ratios vary a little too. I think the 3 runs a slightly higher compression ratio than the MS6.
