So the dollar devalue has nothing to do with the debt we are increasing every day we spend in Iraq?
The price of oil has nothing to do with the drums of war, and threats to "nuke" Iran?

I call BS on the "low profit margin/high volume of sales" by oil companies; show us where you get those figures? (Off the top of my head 55 gallons in a barrel of oil, $140 a barrel does not equal over $4 gas)


I feel the oil companies ARE responsible for the price of gas.

We (the U.S.) won't "nuke" Iran. It isn't necessary. We can carry out any attack with conventional missiles/bombs. Israel, on the other hand, is more likely to lead any attack, for they at a much greater risk from a nuclear Iran. They "officially" don't have any nuclear weapons.

A barrel of oil is 42 gal. in size.

The Iraq war was not started for any reason other than oil. Saddam was not a threat to us.
Iraq supplied the US with something like 8% of our oil imports in 2002, a total of 3% of our usage at that time.
Iraq also supplied oil to several other countries. Iraq currently is exporting little to no oil, those other countries are getting oil elsewhere, this is a supply/demand issue.
The US dollar is weak because of the Iraq war. We are in a war that costs us billions daily, yet there have been no tax increases to pay for this war. We are borrowing from China and Japan, we are so in debt that our 'world credit score' is in the *******.
I can't see oil companies lowering prices even if there is an abundance of oil found floating in out back yard. The huge increases will stop, but I doubt we will ever see $2.00 a gallon gas again. Alternative fuels were not being stopped by the fringe environmentalists, they were blocked by big oil. Environmentalists are not rich, money is what controls matters in the US. Big oil is money.
Iran is a threat to Israel. This is a religious issue and will never be resolved unless the one true god (mahajesuquetzanoazeus) comes down and tells both sides to stop.

I think our biggest problem with inflation, gas prices, energy and food costs is the morons in our increasingly useless government are just that, morons. If they even partially knew how supply and demand worked, how market speculation worked or even just did the tiniest research on their poor proposals (Ethanol as an alternative fuel comes to mind) they wouldnt be driving this country into the ground. It seems more and more like they are just going through knee jerk reactions to each and every thing that happens. I mean really, have congressional hearing with big oil to see why they are posting record profits and gas prices are through the roof . . . um you ppl are LEADING the country and you cant figure that out on your own . . . and bailing out banking institutions with MY tax dollars for their poor practices in the housing markets after you voted to open the loopholes that enabled this crap . . . or even better, congressional hearing on steroid use in baseball, really!?! who the #$%& cares about steroids in baseball when I cant fill my gas tank to get to work to pay for my gas. How about getting your lazy overpaid butts in your offices to RESEARCH and READ the assanine bills being proposed and then go VOTE on them.

There is a lot of oil in the shale, but not as much as originally thought. Mining and processing costs using current technology is about $100 a bbl. It takes a a few dollars to get started and so far no one wants to take the risk.

Here is the up & coming boom.

I've been to Ft McMurray a few times. Those of you who get Mining Magazine will see our 400 Ton truck on the July cover hauling a load of tar sand (each load carries about $80,000 worth of oil).

djgiron is absolutely correct! We need smarter people running this country. I recently heard about potatoes as an ethanol source.... How moronic is that? We might as well use every food to produce fuel. The reasoning would be:
1. Billions of deaths via starvation
2. Less demand for fuel, since a huge portion of the world's population will be dead
3. Lower fuel prices, since there is less demand
4. Use the dead as a fuel source, further pushing down fuel costs...

All in the name of lowering the price of gas...

My personal take on this:

1 - It might help a little with gas prices but it won't solve the issues:
-- a) our dollar is worth ****
-- b) india + china will continue to drive up the cost of oil

2 - If all the commuters started obeying a 55 mph speed limit, the amount saved on gas wouldn't be greater than the amount lost in productivity.

3 - I think at it's core it's all about squeezing more money from people via speeding tickets.
