I had a youngin approach me at a traffic light when in my STI with a Yellow Spec V that definitely had an exhaust mod. I was just thinking he's stupid if he thinks I'm gonna waste my gas on him. I just ignored his revs and refused to race, but I actually had to let off under the normal way I accelerate, because I didn't want to pass him. He was actually racing me. I could hear his engine revving high. I was not impressed, then again, I do own an STI. I'm wondering why guys who thrive on performance buy a Spec V and mod it, and not a srt-4 to keep stock? If you want performance, why wasteall that money modding it, only to still be much slower then a stock srt?

The Spec V is not really in the same league as the SRT-4, but if I remember correctly from my '02 and my experience test driving an Ion Redline and riding shotgun in both a V6 Tiburon and MSP, it pulled just as hard as the latter three. The SRT-4 also costs an extra $3k-$5k right now though too, so you get what you pay for.

The thing I loved most about that little Spec V was the 9 speaker Rockford Fosgate sound system. I think in the 18 months I owned it my hearing got worse because of the punishing volume levels I would happily subject myself to on a regular basis. After the radio I had a lot of criticisms though...

  • horribly geared tranny in relation to the power band of the motor
  • clutch and shifter felt cheap
  • torque steer was nightmarish
  • the 5th > 6th upshift was vague so going into 4th by accident was easy
  • the suspension was great until you pushed the car
Not to mention the obnoxious red interior, an engine that consumed oil like crazy, and a dash layout ideal for collecting dust.
