At 3:03, when they do the engine cutaway, it appears as if pistons are paired up at the crank position (and in operation) like the motor is running as one big-*** 2-cylinder, with managable compression. I've never seen that in a 4-banger before.

Change is good. Anyway, i was hoping for a newly rotary-powered Mazda, replacing the outgoing rx8.

Current MZR has the same configuration...I think the firing order is the same as MZR, but not 100% sure.

Almost all INLINE 4 cylinders in the world use a 1-3-4-2 firing order so 1 and 4 would rise simultaneously as would 2 and 3. I remember some cars running 1-2-4-3 when I was a youth but I don't know if that still exists (Old British Fords). Subaru uses a 1-3-2-4 on their boxer engines.

That firing order looked normal to me. That's what Honda does.

there really aren't many new approaches, just new technology that allows them to explore what was discovered and hypothesized many years ago in early combustion engine history

Yup, You're right. For some reason, my mind registered the operation of the paired pistons as being on the same stage of the compression cycle (two sucking simultaneously, instead of one sucking, one blowing.) Chalk it up to a brain fart...

Ash,

Has the petrol version gone to Europe, Australia, Russia and other territories as yet?

Obviously I know the ship in the video is US bound.

Based upon infos founded in a german Mazda forum, first gasoline-powered Cx-5s will arrive in Western Europe in July.....

Some people here in EU have placed a order without seeing a car "in flesh&bone"......

Mazda CX-5 Part Numbers are up for those (not) interested...for the 2013 KE Series CX-5

CX-5 AWD is ONLY available in 6 Speed Auto, Manual ONLY FWD with Cable controlled Stick Lever.

Also have full 2.2 SkyActiv Diesel Engine Parts Info...and she is a "shy one"...SHY1-02-300
And a SH01....SH01-10-271 Head Gasket, SH01-10-090 Cylinder Head, etc, etc.

The 2.0 SkyActiv Engine Parts info is basically the same as Mazda 3 SA, except the full SA features like the 4:2:1 Exhaust Manifold or referred to as a "Converter" and will run around the $1000 US mark!...these are not NA Region PN.
PE02-20-50XA Converter 2WD Aust
PE07-20-50XA Converter 2WD UK
PE39-20-50XA Converter 4WD

Panels..
KD53, KD54.

Front Axel set up, similar to Mazda 3 , Knuckle, Wheel Bearing Hub, Lower Control Arm (A), looks like steel to me...and Shocks
Rear, Hub (similar to RX-8), Single Steel Trailing Arm/Bush, Single Lateral Link, and a "Banana" Upper Arm, so a total of 3 links each side for the Rear with paddle shape Lower Arm where rear coils sit in...and shocks are separated from rear coils .

Happy to take some requests, at this stage no images...most of this stuff is still embargoed.

Looks like Aust does not get the 'Lane Changing Aid', there are 2 Control Modules, one on the left side and one for the right side, and are around $800 US Each...total $1600 just for the Control Modules!!...but we do get OE Rear Parking Sensors.

Sunroof we get.

Sound, up to 9 Speakers, one in EVERY Door, two in the rear, 3 across the Dash...for Aust.

Overhead Console, similar to RX-8, and Sunroof.
UK gets 4 and or 6 Speakers.
All with a Single Amplifier..which is very good!
