Mazda Takes a Different Approach

Old Rotor 01-12-2012 06:27 PM

I liked it....low key...

RXeligion 01-12-2012 06:59 PM

At 3:03, when they do the engine cutaway, it appears as if pistons are paired up at the crank position (and in operation) like the motor is running as one big-ass 2-cylinder, with managable compression. I've never seen that in a 4-banger before.

monchie 01-12-2012 11:17 PM

Change is good. Anyway, i was hoping for a newly rotary-powered Mazda, replacing the outgoing rx8.

Current MZR has the same configuration...I think the firing order is the same as MZR, but not 100% sure.

de fuel consumption probrem!

Almost all INLINE 4 cylinders in the world use a 1-3-4-2 firing order so 1 and 4 would rise simultaneously as would 2 and 3. I remember some cars running 1-2-4-3 when I was a youth but I don't know if that still exists (Old British Fords). Subaru uses a 1-3-2-4 on their boxer engines.

Paul.

rotarygod 01-13-2012 09:25 AM

That firing order looked normal to me. That's what Honda does.

TeamRX8 01-13-2012 12:20 PM

there really aren't many new approaches, just new technology that allows them to explore what was discovered and hypothesized many years ago in early combustion engine history

ASH8 01-14-2012 02:56 AM

Agree..

:squint: Yup, You're right. For some reason, my mind registered the operation of the paired pistons as being on the same stage of the compression cycle (two sucking simultaneously, instead of one sucking, one blowing.) Chalk it up to a brain fart...:icon_no2:

nycgps 01-15-2012 12:04 AM

ok, where is the next Rotary Engine ?

nothing to see here. move on.

Ash,

Has the petrol version gone to Europe, Australia, Russia and other territories as yet?

Obviously I know the ship in the video is US bound.

Based upon infos founded in a german Mazda forum, first gasoline-powered Cx-5s will arrive in Western Europe in July.....

Some people here in EU have placed a order without seeing a car "in flesh&bone"......;)

Looks like Aust does not get the 'Lane Changing Aid', there are 2 Control Modules, one on the left side and one for the right side, and are around $800 US Each...total $1600 just for the Control Modules!!...but we do get OE Rear Parking Sensors.

Sunroof we get.

Sound, up to 9 Speakers, one in EVERY Door, two in the rear, 3 across the Dash...for Aust.

Overhead Console, similar to RX-8, and Sunroof.
UK gets 4 and or 6 Speakers.
All with a Single Amplifier..which is very good!
