Mazda RX-VISION Concepts
Skyactiv-R
I need to find the article. The head of engine development at Mazda said the new rotary WILL have 3 times the development of any other Skyactiv engine. They are VERY serious about this thing.

It is good news they are testing the engine extensively as it will end up being bought by customers who don't understand the TLC the rotary engine needs, i.e. good quality engine oil and 3-4k oil change intervals. Therefore it'll need to be very reliable etc.
Hopefully there will be no hot starting issues and decent ignition coils and that they will base the car around the rx8 price as a tuned down 250-280 bhp 2+2 rx7 type model and a bigger rx9 GT type car at the caymen market.
In other words if they wanna sell this new sky activ-r engine then make it affordable for those with big money and those on modest incomes, possibly as two models.
I did remember reading Mazda patented rx7 and rx9?

Wow that's going to be expensive, especially after the rx8. I wonder how they are going to convince people that its far superior in terms of reliability to the renesis engine for that kind of money.
I would have aimed lower and brought back the likes of the rx7 fb in terms of a small two-seater sports car just to prove how well it sells with this new engine, then bring out the porsche competitor bigger car.
We don't want to repeat the mistakes of the 3 rotor Cosmo and the FD not selling for the money involved.

If that's where this is heading it will be a wallet cringing failure for Mazda as well. There's no way they even come close to recouping their money from an extremely low volume 60-70k car.
Let us all have the chance to buy one while we are young lol as we are the people who keep the rotary dream alive.
This is (as I've been saying for years) a Halo car.
think GT-R. Put Nissan back on the map and got people to buy altimas, maximas, etc
I would tend to agree. Better to sell a smaller sports car at rx8 money if it's going to be really more reliable and has better economy, torque, reduced emissions than the renesis engine.

this will be a flagship car.
they're not trying to sell a million of them for a profit.

mazda already sells a cheap sports car, it's called the MX-5

My bets are on front wheel drive and eleventeen rotors, and lambo doors, 100 gallon gas tank
Q: Does the GT-R make a big profit for Nissan, because it’s relatively cheap to buy for the performance on offer?
A: Yes, of course. I call it accurate engineering. An expensive price tag for high performance, I think, is not a professional job. A cheap market price, but with high performance and high specification, is a truly professional job. It’s our challenge to achieve this. One of the ways we do this is by producing it on the same line as the Infiniti G37 Coupe and Nissan 370Z.

Nothing helps sell a $70k car faster than cramming a $25k mark up on it.
Just ask Alfa about how the 4C sales have gone over the past 2 years.
