Mazda surprisingly annouced their concept for an EV+ - one with small electric and added range capability. A rotary engine was part of the range capability assortment.

Eh, bring it Mazda. I'm ready for the daily transition to an EV, especially one with a range extender petrol engine for any associated range anxieties.

 

A good start, IMO, if they are serious about bringing the rotary halo car back. It helps to have good economies of scale to cover your R&D bills.

Looks like they are going back to the 70s when they were putting rotaries in family cars.
