One decision I can not understand is NO manuals for Australia...this is a HUGE error.
I have emailed DD about it.

I have no idea about what price North America will get, IMO it will be a lot more expensive, Mazda has already said so...by going up market..

We may still start relatively cheap since we have models with manual trans, no i-ELOOP and none of our cars have i-stop.

Well...aren't I stupid, it was staring me in the face..I looked there, was looking down that list...separately.

Anyway, I think you will see an increase of around $2000 to the base price..+

BTW: I just thought I would put this info here...

Mazda in Australia has broken their sales record again, by the end of December 2012 over 100K new cars sold for this calendar year, 99.99% to private buyers.

Not stupid at all sir. The eyes and the mind do funny things and sometimes it is harder to find something when seeking it .

I think your price guess is credible too. We shall see.

Ash, I also don't think we get LED daytime running lamps in the US. Australia is getting premium treatment .

still as the go auto says, its a wash if you consider the AT spec. they(AUS) just dont have one priced under that now.

Yeah, and we are PAYING for it....these are way overpriced here in OZ.

MA are making a huge mistake IMO....plus NO manuals also for Oz.

Germany and Spain prices are also high. a top spec diesel 175 auto is very close to 40k euros.

Especificaciones y precios

sedan have the same prices of wagon in both countries (also in UK)

I hope they reconsider and give you manuals, at least by next model year. I would be shocked if it does not happen.

Today I called into my local dealer...they were VERY busy!..

The new 6...in a word WOW!!!..

This car is special...

No I did not get to drive any, one already out on demo run and a customer waiting, so all I had were the 2 on floor...the demo was outside for a brief moment when I drove past.

From the side the front fender crease or swoop reality gets your attention, the car looks long, but when you get up close, not so long.
Not as wide as I thought..
From the rear, it is very interesting , the synergy from the rear window to boot or trunk lid, is again special, even unique, it sort of has that Jaguar look/taste.
Class, class and class...

Underneath rear suspension is copied from CX-5 (design) we knew that, lots of perforated heat shields, rear muffler is the flat oval type (small), glossy black plastic underside aero fillers attached to floor pan, goes all the way between wheelbase.

Front lower air splitter juts out 90 degrees horizontally and is made of soft feeling painted (body colour) urethane....Under hood 2.5 gas, a ton of room to work.

Inside, this is what really impressed me, I don't know what the nay sayers are going on about, but it is ALL CLASS!...all the correct soft touch, like Audi, superb finish.
Black perforated leather seats looks small until you sit in them, again you can see real engineering and thought went into every part in this car.

In the short time I looked over, including trunk, yes it is shallow, and YES Australia get a black steel rim spare wheel with normal tyre.

Fantastic..this will sell, even though it is $3000 more than outgoing 6, but a bigger car, with Auto trans and way more features standard like i-eloop, stop start, reverse camera, radar cruise control, and all the other safety features.

Impressive..

Consider this too, the 2.5l SA-G gas up against the 2.5l Toyota Camry, the 6 is bigger, lighter, but uses less fuel.
I am talking roughly 3/4 of a gallon (3 litres) of gas less for every 62 miles, when compared to the 2.5l Camry!...that adds up to a huge fuel saving!

Edit again: ASH, the 6 has the same rear suspension as the CX-5? That is an odd choice, IMO, and might make for less than a premium ride quality over rougher roads (which we have quite a few of here in the snow belt in the U.S.).

I don't THINK I'll be selling my 8 for at least 3 years (it will be 10 years old by then; it literally still runs like new and as I've written on here many times, after test driving so many vehicles the past 2 1/2 years, I'm convinced few cars can match the 8's dynamics, interior quality, blend of ride quality, and for me, reliability, for anywhere near the price-- I even average 20 mpg with my 6MT with 60 city/40 highway driving)...

But if I did, there are few vehicles as good looking inside and out as the new 6 sedan. If it drives well as is more refined and quiet than the outgoing 6 (we own one and it was a great car, but the road noise was a little high), and proves reliable (there's no reason to think that it won't be), it's at the top of my list.

I can't and won't do CUVs/SUVs; my wife replaced our 6 with one, and I've yet to drive or ride in a CUV/SUV that didn't handle like a total pig, even the euro ones. I hate high COG vehicles more than the average person.

The other sedan that strikes my interest is the new Fusion but not with the 1.6 liter turbocharged motor (only with the 2.5 liter, which was developed with Mazda and is one of the most reliable 4 cylinders on the market, IMO), but I am very much growing leery of the quality control problems Ford is seemingly having, and have had a terrible ownership/dealership experience with a new Ford vehicle approximately a decade ago that soured me on Ford.

Edit - I assume the slushbox transmission only is NOT the sole option in the U.S.? If it is, that could be a deal breaker right off the bat.

Ash was saying the suspension "Design" is borrowed from CX-5, not the actual suspension. The CX-5 is quite the handler (For a SUV) But the 6 will outperform it in any situation including comfort. They share no part numbers beyond hubs that I could find at a quick glance. We are getting both manual and auto 6 speeds in the US. I think you will be pleased.

Apparently in Australia the outgoing 6, only 4% were stick/manuals, hence the reason not bringing any out for the GJ here...yet.

This will change...IMO, as will all the number of new model variety, some will disappear.

BTW, there was no 6 Wagon to see.

And RotoRocket, I totally agree, my 8 is a keeper.

As for SUV's ....I HATE THEM..particularly while I am using the MX-5, these bloody large barge asses of SUV's Toyota Prado's, etc, etc...nothing more than a TRUCK, they block my view!

Let alone the GAS/FUEL they use...unless you have a large family, or a boat, or a serious off roader/explorer, they are crap...

You all are going to hate me for wondering about this. I'll take a stab anyway.

Is the U.S. 6 coming with those brilliant LED DRL's? They look fantastic in every pic I've seen of them in the Asian, Aus, and Euro markets. I have yet to see the lights lit in the LA Autoshow pictures and videos, and this makes me question the availability of those LED's. Not to mention Paul's statement a few posts up.

I don't see any reasonable cause to not include them for our market other than to "cut costs," but then I thought Mazda is trying to move slightly up market?

Sorry SNTP I am not certain 'if' any US Mazda 6 will have DRL's....

Mazda has done the old strip out of features to bring down shipping costs approach, plus I really do not believe from marketing/ customer satisfaction point of view owners would 'get it' in regard to i-stop and i-eloop...
Think about it, you guys complain when brakes squeak..
Imagine the reaction 'if' i-stop did not work when driver/owner thought it would or should, BTW it Won't work if Battery is not up to 85%+ charge capacity, etc, etc.

Anyway, some more interesting Mazda 6 Service Caution, (see PDF) this is not for US 6 models..

But it appears there is a shelf life for i-eloop Capacitor's as a spare part of only 2 years and must be kept upright (storage).

Note: The capacitor stocked as a repair part must be used within 2 years after production date.
Production date is indicated on the outer case of the repair part.
When the capacitor is stored, maintain it upright.
When you dispose of the vehicle or the part, be sure to conduct the forced discharge of the capacitor before disposal according to the Workshop Manual.
The Service Information for details of i-ELOOP will be issued separately.

Oh..also note, existing GL4 75W80 Transmission Oil can be used in the SA Manual Trans..
SA-Auto Trans fluid is a different matter, ONLY use SA specific ATF.

Plus (this one makes me smile) the old "Kick Down Switch" is back for the Auto's, an actual switch attached to the Accelerator Pedal so when you floor Gas Pedal the Trans shifts down.
This is an old Mazda feature that went away for a few decades under Ford management, but is back under MAZDA RULEs!!

I have found some more interesting news on future TPMS, Tire Pressure Monitoring System...

On 2013 models like new Mazda 6, there are no TPMS Sensors in each 4 wheel rims,
it is now controlled by the cars advanced ABS unit...yes ABS..

If you guys don't want me to post this stuff here plz let me know, I hope I am not boring you?..

Anyway this is how (basic) the TPMS works on the new Mazda 6 and future all new models.
One must 'reset button on dash' TPMS each time one checks tire pressures.

Beginning in model year 2013, some Mazda vehicles are equipped with a tire
pressure monitoring system that does not use wheel mounted sensors.

Instead, the new sensor-less system uses an advanced ABS system to indirectly monitor the
affect of under inflated tires. Under inflation is detected by monitoring tire rotational
behavior using advanced signal processing spectrum analysis.
If a tire looses pressure, (or for some reason becomes over inflated,) its expected
rotational characteristics will change. This change from what’s expected is then
assumed to be under inflation.

The TPMS malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will then illuminate.

After any type of tire or wheel maintenance, (for example adjusting tire pressure, tire
rotation, tire/wheel repair or replacement), the system must be reset. Additionally,
after battery discharge/disconnection or ABS/ABS related system diagnosis or repair,
the system must be reset.

This is accomplished using a TPMS Reset Button located on the dashboard of the vehicle.

I believe this means you can not switch tire and wheel sizes as it is programed for the stock setup.

fine for family car. Bad for sports car.

Now you will always have the TPMS light on.

A few cars have used TPMS/ABS systems in the past. The reset procedures were a giant pain. The Oldsmobile Alero was available with it for a while I believe.
