OK good they've gotten faster. Those first numbers must have just been them getting used to the car on the track. Now they've got to go in and dial the setting in nicer. They've still got a huge hill to climb to get up to the top in class but definitely better than the initial runs by far. It is still at the back of the class though.

I fully expect them to get under the 1:50.xxx mark, this car has the potential to be really fast, but will it get to the end of the race?

the car does have some great potential, great chassis indeed. Engine is kinda unknown at the moment, do they even have direct injection in there??? you can only guess, and it'd be funny if they dont!.

i wanna see guy cosmos drive this car!... haha i just had this idea in my head.. if mazda wants publicity, why not invite catherine legge and danica patrick to drive the car... and tell the world the MZR-R (2.0L) actually derived from the MIATA!(no offense, i love the mx-5 too!)... it'd be a total chick car! and you know, at the right time of the month , we might dominate the track!

Last I checked today I think we're still 5.5 secs off. In other words...an eternityyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
In a 12 hour race how many times would the Mazda be lapped? Anybody ready for a 4 rotor yet....
I know it should only get better with more track time. I wouldn't might seeing a top notch pilot run it to see if more can be had from the car in the current set up.

well for a new chassis, 200 lbs lighter, and a more powerfull engine 4 seconds is not impresive at all, lets see how reliable the engine is

That's a four and a half second gap with the fastest P2 car and 6 seconds to the very front. It would be nice to see at least a 3 second improvement. They aren't the slowest right now but there's only a second and a half difference between the top 7 P2 cars. That's a lot of traffic so they will all slow down during the actual race as a result. That may actually give Mazda a chance. At least until the field opens up and spaces out a little bit after pitstops. I wonder how much time driver alone could make up?

The gap is down close enough now that things like budget, driver, testing, tires, etc.. are the difference. It's always the last 5% that is the hardest and most expensive to achieve. That being said, the other teams might be working race set-ups while Mazda is learning... qualifying will tell us a bit more. I'm sure all the new teams will want to show well at this first round. A 12-hour endurance is always more strategy than all out racing as in the following short sprint type races.

Obvisouly the Porsche Spyder in 7th had an issue... so the realistic spread to the last Acura is -1.895... not that bad. Good to see the improvement. I wish, like you all, that they would've made this type of effort with the RE, but it's good to see Mazda progress. Still an under-dog, but battling hard.

I agree, there is nothing that would have please me more than to have seing the rotary be competitive, but it is a mazda after all, and the effort that they have put in is admirable
