well, before we jump all over them let's think how we would react if something similar happened here. if someone like zoom44 or boostd7 were in a bad accident and we found out about it and someone with one post came onto the boards to say anything to say that the 8 was designed poorly in any way (right or wrong), what would we do?

now, maybe the guy was just a tad melodramatic (and by a tad i mean waaaay overboard) to make his point but i'd expect a similar post to defend a major player from these boards from what looks like a troll. we may think/know different as to their intent but just look at it from their perspective.

just a little food for thought and my meaningless 2 cents.

I don't like your 2 cents! That is utterly impossible! I would never ever defend the RX like that guy did you *****. But how dare you come on here and spew your blah blah blah and wahh wahh wahh about our beloved RX. Cry Cry Cry whine whine whine, the rx is the best engineering feat of our century etc etc and there is a reason why it gets a 1000000000 star safety rating on every possible thing; as show on this website www.slightlyalteredfacts.com.

I can also show you pictures of *insert your car name here* of roofs crashed in just from a simple low speed crash at www.caraccidentsover200mph.com.

So there.

My nickel! (which trumps your 2 cents)

I honestly think the majority of this forum, over age, say, 22, would have no problem recognizing the design problems with the rx8. Do we have ANY members here, with thousands of posts, who couldn't handle reasonable critiques of the rx8?

Hrm...

on a serious note though, that lady is lucky to be alive. I'm surprised convertibles don't have some sort of pop up roll bar when flipping happens.
I wonder if solstice and sky owners argue about which car looks better? since they are basically the same car. I wonder what else they could argue about.

look, i couldn't care less about that soltice thread. what i'm saying is that i would anticipate that someone would come in and defend a senior member of the board. make fun if you like but all i'm saying is look at it from their shoes. the person who rolled their car didn't go on and bitching and moaning about the poster. it was someone else that did so.

and i've seen plenty of die-hard rx8ers on here that would have jumped on that apparent troll. because what they were really jumping on was that this person had an accident, someone else asked for details, she came on and said what happened and showed pictures, and people were offering their condolences. at that point someone offered up the fact that she had a flaw in her reasoning which was that it wasn't the car, it was luck (or guardian angels as they all wanted to say).

so of course someone jumped in to defend and that person happened to be a fanboi who was overly dramatic. i am sure we have those here and maybe they wouldn't have been as dramatic but would have jumped in to defend the car and point out that it was bad form.

but by all means, let's continue with the herd mentality and let's make fun of the fact that their car isn't as cool as ours and has flaws. i'm certainly not cool anyway and cool points wouldn't have helped me. dmc can attest to that since he's met me and knows i'm just your average computer nerd (and i wish i were being sarcastic).

The thing is, though - Somebody would only get jumped if they were saying STUPID stuff about the RX8, such as "It can't survive a rollover as well as a Solstice!" or... "The RX8 blows up when you rev it!"...Or "The RX8 has well-known oil burning problems!"

The guy wrote nothing inflammatory - just his perception of how the cars NEED HELP.

I will attest to the fact that cool points can't help either of us.

And I'll agree that someone would def. have jumped all over a similar post here. Frankly, there's a good chance it would be me. The "troll" over there, whether intentionally trolling or not, was waaayyy outta line. That type of thread is NOT the place to point out a "design flaw." Especially by some 1 post pud puller.

BTW - I'm pretty sure MyRXdrug was just being a wisearse w/that "my nickel" post.

and i don't disagree with you that it wasn't mean to be inflammatory. i am simply stating that it was only days after the accident that resulted from a run and people were offering their condolences. it's only natural to jump on a one-poster who offers up something that is anything other than that even if that post was correct. and i'll say it again - the guy went way overboard with his presentation of what he had to say but was just sticking up for one of their founding members.

i've seen a few accidents on here where people state that their car saved them (and of course now i'll have to go look for those posts b/c someone will challenge that) when in fact the car probably did little to offer any additional support. and in those posts people tended to agree that our car is a well made car and whether it's b/c it is or b/c people need to make themselves feel better about the choice they made, it's natural - it's human nature.

all i'm saying is let them be for that thread. start a new one that you can challenge the legitimacy of the a-pillar and if you need to reference those pictures, do so. it's just more respectful that way.

I've seen plenty of flipped convertible pictures before, seems to me the BMW and S2000 have the best A-pillar strength. Older Miata can be hairy (especially with no standard rollbar of any kind). But to see the A-pillar collapse like this in a brand new 2006 design is kind of disconcerting. We're not talking about high speed barrel roll or falling off a cliff here. The lady fishtailed into the hill nose first and that's probably what rolled the car. If not for the ditch she'd have been seriously messed up.

It's not disrespectful to bring up design flaws in that thread because nobody DIED. If the lady had been injured, sure...let them be in peace.

you're right, no one died or was hurt but it still would hurt to see my 8 like that and just days after the accident i would be in no mood to hear about how it was luck.

but, but, but then we wouldn't have somewhere to go to watch the drama unfold.

(btw, I'm just kidding too)

That being said, I think we are all glad she is ok and walked away from the accident. The newb's post wasn't an attack on her or the situation, but on what he perceived as a design flaw. I just thought the "heart-attack-I-just-****-a-brick" attitude of the next poster was humorous. No offense meant in my pointing it out

it actually was humorous that he went so over the top, broadway musical, dramatic. i just didn't want a bunch of us going on there and trying to take the focus away from her bad situation and try to point out how overboard he really went.

went back to see if there was any more and it looks like we did have a post from here (possibly the one that was being moderated earlier?).
Saw this pop up on one of the RX8 forums, being that i've driven the dragon as well it caught my attention.

My thoughts on the windshield failing is a bit scary in my opinion, it deffinetly would raise a lot of concerns if i were an owner of a Solstice. But that being said, any convertable has that same design flaw where structural integrity and saftey is comprimised at the a-pillar, be it the solstice, mx-5, sky, s2000, sl600, etc. etc. the only way to counter it is to place a full roll cage around the driver if you wanted to keep the open air experience(which IMHO would look down right *** ugly on a solstice), or go with a hard top, which kinda ruins the point f having a convertable.

Crash tests wrecks cani't account for the infinite possibilities of how avehicle would land in this type situation.
First hand experience has taught me that even lane paint can be a driving hazard on the dragon. gravel on the shoulder of the roads can make it damn impossible to recover if you fail to execute a turn right.

All in all, She was very fortunate that the accident end in the manner that it did. and being a fellow dragon slayer, i hope to see you get back up on that horse and keep motoring.
and now the guy admitted that he went a little overboard. looks like he's had a chance to cool down a bit.

Sorry to all for going over the top. I was pushed...This thread is neither the time or the place.

Oh, and that guy on the solstice forum sounds like a TOOL! Maybe Ike's using his 30 day suspension to play on the solstice forums.. (j/k)
