The fact the the RX-8 doesnt have a b-pillar should not scare people anyway. my dad's f150 has no b-pillar and I hardly think its an issue (yes i am aware that the f150 is much bigger than the RX-8). Once you in the car and drive you won't even notice the difference and forget that the pillar isnt there.

Is it the 3 & 9 position? Or somewhere between the 4 & 5 and 7 & 8 position (which I find uncomfortable) that AAA now is recomending?

On my Wife's Passat, VW recomends 3 and 9.
That's a question I could never answer for you but I'd imagine it would be the same as your Passat as airbags are generally deployed in a similar fashion.

However that being the case, my wrists would be hurting if I got into an accident... I move my hands around until I'm comfortable which may *look* very uncomfortable to others at times. I rarely have the 3&9 position, or even the 10&2. Most of the time it's 12 and one hand on the shifter :P

When you are involved in a front impact accident that will cause the airbags to deploy, you won't have time or inclination to pay attention to where your hands are!

True.

... I'm tring to train myself to do the 4-5 & 7-8 position, I've got the 3 & 9 down most of the time, but I offen find myself back at the 2 & 10 ...

Anyway, I asked a saleman at Mazda - and he said "just before you hit, take you hands away fro the wheel." And I said, "Sadly I'd be holding it tighter..."
