It may be priced just right at that price point, but at that price point, it's not in the same market as the 350z coupe, the RX-8, or the S2000 (as zoom44 pointed out).

But it does look like a fine car, and I'm glad Toyota apparently is getting back into the performance car market.

hmm i think its using the same platform as the lexus LF-A , A.K.A Lexus Gt-500. but that was from car and driver. since your was a jdm mag, i think its more accurate info. so i maybe wrong.

I hope this one can be a better overall performer than the previous one. Seems like toyota is heading in the right direction, but the price is ridiculous.

I wish it was rumored to be coming with a different powerplant. Something F1 inspired, perhaps.

Hmmm. I would pay $35k for the 350bhp model. I wonder if there's a chance...

All these sports cars being announced with bigger and more powerful engines while gas prices continue to go up with no end in sight...

I don't know about anyone else, but I am extremely tired of reading about upcoming cars and future plans. Especially cars a good year or two away. Who knows what will happen in that time frame.

And just who is it that said gas won't be so expensive in 2011?????

I'd rather have a rotary Kabura than the new Supra. I'll take lightweight and lower power, over heavy and powerful any day.

I used to own several expensive cars (almost double the new supra), and I can tell you right now that it's something you either do because you're 1) stupid. 2) wealthy. or 3) all of the above. Car's just aren't worth it. That's why I bought the RX-8. Wasn't too costly, gave me what I wanted.
No offense, but if you owned cars almost double the new supra...I am curious as to what other cars you have along with your Rx8? The only car which rings a bell costing almost double a new supra would be a Porsche 911...and I would drive one of those over an rx8 in a heartbeat. It doesn't make sense to have a Sub 35k car when you can afford a much nicer one with better performance in every category.

What are the "several expensive cars" which you owned.

Unless you were a middle class guy who struggled to pay for an expensive car. I, and I'm sure the people who can afford them, think 80,000 dollars is more than worth it..if you can afford it.

My stable included two 993's and a 944. I never had any custom work done on them, but the black convertable 993 was chipped and had a harder clutch. I was young and admittedly dumb. From age 19 till 23, I was making 70-80k range in NJ working for AT&T. I lived with my GF in a 5500 sq ft house, she owned it, so I had no payments. All my income was disposable, and I tossed it out the window.

They were all daily drivers. About 50 miles each way to and from work. So every other month I'd blow a ton of cash on new automatic window motors, new AC units, rack and pinion dying, bushings needing to be replaced. None of that mattered to me back then.

Why exactly would you want a 911 over the rx-8? They're the same size, same weight. Neither came with 450 hp stock.

Given my living condition, I could easily afford them. That doesn't mean it was the right thing to do.

I think they're making a mistake but not going with FI. Nissan realized their error in going N/A with the GTR before it was too late, hopefully Toyota does the same.

No mention of weight. Some of the Kabura articles have targeted the weight around 2500-2600 lbs. Considering the Supra has always been heavy compared to its rotary competitors, I am assuming that with rumors of a V8 that this car will be no different and will be in 350Z territory if not heavier. Will the Kabura ever have a rotary, I doubt it, it was just an off-the-cuff comment.

Why?

If the V6 makes 350HP and the V8 450HP...and it does not weigh more than 3500 pounds, why do you need a turbo? Nothing wrong with NA power when you are hitting 350-450HP.

The Mustang comes in at 3500 pounds and has 300HP...and does VERY well with the amount of power it has considering it's weight.

what exactly are you looking for? the f1 engines are v8, do you want them to run on f1 fuel or something?

as for price $40-50k would put it cheaper than the mkIV, inflation adjusted. when they came out in the early/mid 90s the tt was about $45k, which was in the same price range as the rx7. the track version of the 350z is $40k, so its significantly cheaper than the v8 but still up there and delivers 150 less hp. the v6 unit is more of a track z competitor and theyre in the same price range. the v8 will be in that tweener class, blowing away cars like the z, ms 8 (hopefully) and vette while hanging tough with m3, gtr and z06

450hp for 50k in 2007? Why not just purchase the Shelby Cobra coming out this year with 475hp?
