But it does look like a fine car, and I'm glad Toyota apparently is getting back into the performance car market.

All these sports cars being announced with bigger and more powerful engines while gas prices continue to go up with no end in sight...
I don't know about anyone else, but I am extremely tired of reading about upcoming cars and future plans. Especially cars a good year or two away. Who knows what will happen in that time frame.

And just who is it that said gas won't be so expensive in 2011?????
I'd rather have a rotary Kabura than the new Supra. I'll take lightweight and lower power, over heavy and powerful any day.

I used to own several expensive cars (almost double the new supra), and I can tell you right now that it's something you either do because you're 1) stupid. 2) wealthy. or 3) all of the above. Car's just aren't worth it. That's why I bought the RX-8. Wasn't too costly, gave me what I wanted.

What are the "several expensive cars" which you owned.
Unless you were a middle class guy who struggled to pay for an expensive car. I, and I'm sure the people who can afford them, think 80,000 dollars is more than worth it..if you can afford it.

It doesn't make sense to have a Sub 35k car when you can afford a much nicer one with better performance in every category.

They were all daily drivers. About 50 miles each way to and from work. So every other month I'd blow a ton of cash on new automatic window motors, new AC units, rack and pinion dying, bushings needing to be replaced. None of that mattered to me back then.
Why exactly would you want a 911 over the rx-8? They're the same size, same weight. Neither came with 450 hp stock.
Given my living condition, I could easily afford them. That doesn't mean it was the right thing to do.

I think they're making a mistake but not going with FI. Nissan realized their error in going N/A with the GTR before it was too late, hopefully Toyota does the same.

No mention of weight. Some of the Kabura articles have targeted the weight around 2500-2600 lbs. Considering the Supra has always been heavy compared to its rotary competitors, I am assuming that with rumors of a V8 that this car will be no different and will be in 350Z territory if not heavier. Will the Kabura ever have a rotary, I doubt it, it was just an off-the-cuff comment.

If the V6 makes 350HP and the V8 450HP...and it does not weigh more than 3500 pounds, why do you need a turbo? Nothing wrong with NA power when you are hitting 350-450HP.
The Mustang comes in at 3500 pounds and has 300HP...and does VERY well with the amount of power it has considering it's weight.

as for price $40-50k would put it cheaper than the mkIV, inflation adjusted. when they came out in the early/mid 90s the tt was about $45k, which was in the same price range as the rx7. the track version of the 350z is $40k, so its significantly cheaper than the v8 but still up there and delivers 150 less hp. the v6 unit is more of a track z competitor and theyre in the same price range. the v8 will be in that tweener class, blowing away cars like the z, ms 8 (hopefully) and vette while hanging tough with m3, gtr and z06
