if this really comes i think ill have to trade good ol lindsay in. 450hp for $50k, na? i love my old mII and i think that i could replace my 8 with this without feeling guilty.

NgoRX8 05-17-2006 06:45 PM

i like everything about the supra except for the curve of the front. it should dip in if anything.

dupa12345 05-17-2006 07:00 PM

mission : knock the 350z off its pedestal .. that is so lame .. is the 350z really the best japanese sports car .. toyota is either making a scion supra .. or whoever wrote this thinks they are

Mazdaspeed RX8 ver2 05-17-2006 07:04 PM

ehh, before the 8, i was going to get a 98 supra turbo. But i took the chance with rotaries and love it and never will replace it. the new supras look great though but i still love the styling of the mkIV for some reason over this one even though it has similarities with the mkIV. Just my 2 cents on the subject

rx8wannahave 05-17-2006 07:13 PM

Nice...but still too pricy (for me at least)...so I honestly can't care about this car other than being happy for Toyota which does not have alot of fire in their belly right now.

The only cars that I think "might" have a chance to be my next car are:

EVO X
Camaro

or....just put a Turbo on my 8 and call it a day, lol. What ever happens...if the rear seat work, I'd consider it. I think...I need a 3 car garage.

The way I look at it - the cost of switching cars and depreciation is about what a FI kit would cost installed.

NgoRX8 05-17-2006 07:24 PM

^good way of thinking about it. haha

Howdy1606 05-17-2006 07:32 PM

what is an FI kit??

dupa12345 05-17-2006 07:38 PM

forced induction

stogey420time 05-17-2006 07:44 PM

werd...that supra is hawt!

Mugatu 05-17-2006 08:28 PM

how does one knock a 350z off the pedestal when it costs twice as much?

zoom44 05-17-2006 08:34 PM

If everything we are hearing is true, Toyota will have a car that'll eclipse the performance of the Nissan 350z, Mazda RX-8 and Honda S2000
at $40k- $50k? it damn well better had. that price range puts it against Porshe, the Vette and one assumes the GT-R due out about the same time

FI RX-8 = 450hp Supra?

:uhh:

Renesis_8 05-17-2006 09:10 PM

I loved the last Supra, but this new Supra will share platform and engine with future Lexus vehicles I think.... I just cant get over that, I want an unique vehicle, not just styling, I want every major parts of a car to be unique (engine, chassis...), guess I'll have to wait for Mazda's next rotary sports car.

NO!

An RX-8 with a turbo > Everything else

snizzle 05-17-2006 09:40 PM

Ike has finally come around. Good for him.

snizzle 05-17-2006 09:42 PM

BTW, i'm not crazy about the front end on that car either.

Exactly right. If they price it anywhere near 50k they have missed the mark. Most Supra lovers arent in that price range. The car is sharp, the performance is great, but the person who can afford that will generally want a european hood ornament.

No, but a FI RX-8 is still less than $40k.

with rumors of the nissan skyline being anywhere from 50-70k, i think the supra is priced just right at 40-50k

Japan8 05-17-2006 11:00 PM

I believe that this is also platform sharing with the IS series. I didn't read the JDM mag article carefully... just a light skim. BUt.... IS500 is going to sport a V8 in that power range and the engine may also be used in the Supra....

Nissan is out of there minds also. There is a reason why they have never brought that car over here. They think now is the time? Exactly what segment are they looking to be in? Are they going up against BMW Ms, Caddy Vs, Porsche, & Benz AMGs? That is pretty crowded territory.

I was referring to people getting bored and wanting change. FI is far cheaper than switching cars. Especially to one that will run $50,000.

I used to own several expensive cars (almost double the new supra), and I can tell you right now that it's something you either do because you're 1) stupid. 2) wealthy. or 3) all of the above. Car's just aren't worth it. That's why I bought the RX-8. Wasn't too costly, gave me what I wanted.

LostAngel 05-18-2006 06:36 AM

Why do I see a lot of the new gen eclipse in there??

LOL, yeah...nice way to look at it. IF....and that's a big IF, I got rid of my 8 for something else it would only be after I paid it off. Honestly...I think I'll go the Scott 5psi 300whp way and keep my 8 permanently.

I’d like to get my hands on a Chevy V8 at least once in my life, so that’s why I’d be open to change. Just like I wanted a RX at least once in my life. The EVO X…well, that’s an option since it has bigger rear seats for the little guy….while REALLY FAST for his daddy, lol.

Mostly…this is talk, it would be great to rest from a car payment for 5 years or so.
