Personally, I think it's mighty retarded to "hate" a car, per se. I mean, WTF did a car do to anyone to make them "hate" it! I will say, however, that I hate the stereotypical drivers of certain cars. You know, the guys who embody all the negative aspects of an aggregate of a specific model/make's owners.

If the Free-titty is anything, it is the 8's most serious competitor. So it should be respected, not hated. The Z can do somethings the 8 can't and vice-versa. *rant, rant, rant* Y'alls know the deal.

Me, I loves my Free-titty! Just wanna acknowlege Labdad's candor and integrity for authoring this thread. In the 350z sites, I admit I sometimes frequent, alls they do is trash talk the 8. Sad. Real, sad...

I wish brother, it's 18" all around. The GT, however, has 18" up front & 19" in the rear. They are staggered width though, 8" up front and 8.5" in the back.

I really doubt it's legit. I've been to the track on a few ocassions when the timeing was off, normally they fix it, but if it's a street drags night they don't bother since it's just supposed to be heads up and they don't display the times. The chances of a Z running that time with that 60' and that trap speed are really slim.

Phantom,
Nice car, that's the color I would have gotten if I went with the Z. I need to get pics of my brothers Z and my 8 together. Too bad our work schedules make it difficult to go driving right now.

Thanks guys...You know what? We should start a sub-club! A non-RX8 owner's RX8-club! It seems this club continues to attract people who were either interested in the 8 or owned one at one time. If we could get Ike, Tiggerlee, Camaro194, and some of the other guys who appreiate the RX8 and still frequent this site together...

Camaro194,

I've always been partial to the cleaner look of clears. One thing though, is that they are a b!tch to install. You gotta remove the front bumper...

Not a problem. I have to practically take it off half the frond end to change the oil. It sucks having to remove 14 or so screws to remove that engine "tray".

C'mon man...Like the CX-7/8 look so differently from the 8! And you can't say that ALL Mazda's have similar interiors. Albiet, it is a nice design. They look like big, raised up RX8s...it's called continuity. Camrys look like big Yaris' and the Odessey looks like a streched out Accord.

Camaro194,
You do any mods to your Z yet?

Great pics of your Zs. I like the clear corners as well better too. Sadly, I have never driven a Z, I should go to my local dealer.

So far, just some audio stuff , a Popcharger, and winter tires. I know...pretty weak. I'm looking at the MREV+ and 5/16 spacer in the near future. Pretty good gains for @ $600. Anything on your 07 yet?

Dude. You gots to! I had a 300ZX TT before my 8 and always liked them. Then I test drove my 07. That's how it became "my 07." For '07, the clutches are much smoother and so is the suspension. Not to mention the new HR pumps out 306bhp. From '06-'07, the quality of the interior has been much improved as well. Now, it wont handle as well as an 8. Right off the bat, I'll give the 8 that. But the torque is so plentiful that you won't be needing to redline the first 3 gears to feel some "umph" either. Just remember that it is a DIFFERENT car than the 8 in many ways.

Go check it out.

Dude you have to!!! Take your 8 there and give the saleman the story of how you're considering a trade but really need to drive a Z to help with you decision and then pound the crap outta that car

Okay, I think you have convinced me....although it would take little convincing to go for a spin in a Z.

Or I could rent one from Hertz for the day, but they are ATs. I've seen them around $65-70/day.

Boo! You need to try the 6mt to get the real feel of the car, of any car for that matter. ATs are just point and shoot. Just go to the dealer and don't bring a checkbook, cash, or your car.

i like and respect the Z without qustion. however, i drove 2 of them before i bought the 8. actually, truth be told, i went to buy a Z the day i bought the 8. i don'y know, it just didn't seem to have a soul to me - at least, not compared to the Z32. the 8 had a soul when i drove it (twice, too) so i bought it.

sometimes i wonder if i should have given it more of a chance since aside from my MR2 Turbo and Celica, i've owned nothing but Rx-7s since 1990. that's 17 years of rotaries (i never gave up my Rx-7 while i owned the Toyotas). i love my 8, but i think i still want a Z.

Hehehe...you sound like me.... i owned nissan Z cars for the past 12 years , yet this 350Z doesn't do it for me, maybe the next Z car will. I always was facinated by rotaries but the horror stories always turned me back to my Z cars.

I give all up to my wife , if it wasn't for her wanting a Miata , i would have never stepped foot into a Mazda dealership and checked out the 8. One test drive of the 8 and i was sold. Like you said... the car has soul and brought me back to my '80 280Z. My '86 TurboZ was a blast and 94 TTZ was a high speed highway demon . But my 280Z was blissfull because of the way it performed and handle sort of like the 8. Like the 8, it wasn't the fastest car on the road, but danm it was the total package ...something that alot of cars aren't today.

Looking foward to what Mazda has in store for the future and i am crossing my fingers that Nissan makes a more appealing Z that has some more curb appeal.

^ Define "more appealing". The Z is very appealing to the target mkt. I'm guessing you mean "More appealing to me"!

That blue w/the clears looks great. There's a silver in the office complex I'm at, and I always look at those gawddamned orange markers and think - "man, I bet those would be a bitch to swap out for clears."

More appealing as far as exterior design.... the exterior is ho-hum. The drop top Z is gross, it looks like a bath tub on wheels when the top is down.

I like how Nissan used the Z32 roof line, but the rest of the car doesn't flow well with that roof line IMO. The body is very "thick" compared to the sexy and slim body of the Z32 300ZX.

Compared to the Z32, the 350 Z is a bloated jelly bean with a smile . I am not a fan of that look.....

This is the concept for the Z33 back in 1999 before gosh scrapped it , to me this concept or concept were much better than the current 350Z that we have today.

If the 350Z looked like those cars above.... my RX-8 would have a new garage mate!

I'm a huge fan of the 350z. Got to drive one back to back on a track with a rx8. The rx8 definitely was quicker around the corners, but my god that engine is superb in the 350z.

If i didn't need the back seats, or if the 350z was a little bigger inside, it would be a tough choice.

^^ that red pic is really nice. I agree w/you on the lines being off. It seems like the roof bubbles a bit too much.

Here's part of my thread from the Focus boards on my shopping day, where I drove the 2 back to back...

2005 RX-8 6-speed I had the feeling before I even drove it that this would be the car I would end up with. After I drove it… that feeling was made almost completely certain. Gorgeous car, useable back seats (for groceries anyway, and that ‘freestyle’ door would actually make it really easy), and an interior that easily trumped everything else that I would drive that day. Fantastic seats (cloth, the way I want it) with bolsters that fit my body like a glove. Excellent ergonomics, with everything falling to hand easily and intuitively. Even my father-in-law mentioned how much more comfortable it was, even with his bad back. I was afraid the rotary would make it feel slow just because of the torque deficit, but it felt seriously quick. Sounds a little like an alien blender, but I got to like it. More than anything, though, within a block I felt completely connected to the car and the road. The steering wheel and the seat transmitted exactly what was going on with the pavement below me, but in a totally comfortable and intuitive way. I knew I had to find some good roads so I drove out to a local lake for some twisty country road and let ‘er rip. Good lord did she rip!!! Smooth, linear power with an utterly planted chassis and super-accurate steering. You would have to be a complete moron to put this car off, not to mention an idiot to drive it to it’s limits on public roads, as high as they are. It was a completely immersive experience, with all controls and every part working together in harmony. F-ing GLORIOUS!!!! If it wasn’t on empty I might still be out there, and after I parked it I didn’t even want to leave… But next on the list was the 350Z, and I wasn’t about to pass that up!

2007 350Z Enthusiast They didn’t have a used manual coupe, so I drove a brand new one to see if I would want to wait for their next acceptable trade-in. Interior was nicer than the Mustang but not as nice as the RX8. Good ergonomics, though, and very comfortable. Almost no space though… I know I’m not shopping for a family car, but the ability to load up a few bags of groceries would be nice. That rear strut bar erases almost all available luggage room. Sounded absolutely fabulous, as anyone who’s heard one knows. Easily the best engine note of the day. The clutch was reeeeaaaally high on this car, so it took a bit to get used to the clutch, but the driveline felt pretty solid. In fact, that was the theme of this car, solid. Felt extremely tight and well put together. I was liking it, but not as much as the Mazda, as I was in traffic and not really able to exercise that engine much. Finally got a decent road and a really nice interstate on-ramp where I got to nail it and…. HOLY CRAP that thing has some power. Honest to god, big-boy power that was accentuated by the fact that with very little lean or squat it just took off and was able to keep pouring it on through the on-ramp. Then, on the interstate, it was able to easily punch us up to very high speeds without any trouble at all. Felt a lot more muscular than the Mustang GT, in fact. It really got under my skin, I have to admit.
I also drove a new Miata, very fun and I was able to drive just fine at 6’3” 200lbs, but the space really is cramped and I am not a fan of convertibles anyway. Lastly I drove an Impreza WRX, but after everything else that day it felt totally uninteresting. Some decent push, but couldn’t compare to the Z or the 8. Turned around after 3 blocks.

So, in the end, if you haven’t already guessed, I am getting an RX8. That Z had a ton of power, and really came close, but the fact that it has almost nil convenience and that it wasn’t as fun as the Mazda until I opened the flood gates means that it doesn’t get the final pick. I would just get in trouble with it as I would end up going Mach 1 everywhere, whereas with the RX8 I am able to enjoy it more at legal, sane speeds and can actually go to the grocery store without advance planning.

A feeling we shared. That much torque & power just begs for the exhibition of speed +/- reckless driving tickets that result from stomping on the gas every time you accelerate.

Oh, and when did you experience the sound of an alien blender?
