Hyundai, Kia admit to bogus fuel efficiency claims

Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. and Kia Canada Inc. announced today they will reimburse drivers who bought cars from them between the 2010 and 2012 model years, because an error at the companies' testing facilities in Korea has made the cars less fuel efficient than advertised.

Um, easily?

My RX-8 gets more than EPA highway while cruising at 75. My MSM is rated at 26mpg and the only tank that has been under 28 is one where I burned up half a tank having back road fun with it all morning, and that was still 24mpg. My Mazda5 was rated at 25mpg, and I got 27mpg regularly. My 99 Miata was rated at 28mpg, and with blown piston rings I was getting 29mpg.

This is just me. Lots of people can get over EPA without much trouble.

Thank being said, before it's overblown, look at the actual difference for Hyaundai/Kia:
On average, the fuel consumption across all Kia and Hyundai cars is actually 0.3 litres higher per 100 kilometres than advertised — meaning if your car allegedly can go 100 kilometres on 10 litres of gas, it actually will use 10.3 litres to do that trip.
Hardly something to start screaming about.

Yeah, been reading up on this HYUKIA stuff up...throw the book at them I say...particularly their 4x40 MPG TV rap Ad, which is misleading advertising...

They are going to compensate owners via a MPG calculation, Dealers check Odo Meter reading, whatever owner has done, some other $$ calculation Plus a 15% (goodwill), so they get back a cheque, sorry check.

Roughly an owner in an Elantra who did say 15,000 in a year gets back about $88.

There are a lot of New Car Dealers in the US who are not happy with HYUKIA, false and misleading advertising, owners who did not buy 'a' brand of car and went for HYUKIA because of their advertised MPG....

I guess it is OK to understate MPG, but the other way around and this happens..

Some are calling for a heavy fine, others even jail time.!!!
