if you do the online games, you can join and hope others get disconnected. Or you can painfully circle the daytona S-class race once every 4:18 to get 32k.

You can also borrow someone's save files

I haven't even gone online yet - I didn't even think about that. With my crap broadband though I would probably be the one getting disconnected. I'm definitely familiar with the 32K Daytona one though. Everytime I fire the game up now I run 3 or 4 of those to get some quick cash.

I'm progressing through the game slowly (part way thru the S-class) and buying and trying every car I desire along the way and it seems like a lot of work to reach the 2 million (I think?) needed for the F1 car.
Play alot of online races, you will reach 2 million pretty quickly. Even if you screw up a race and place 5th -10th place you will still get 20k.

btw, someone asked me earlier if the F1 is adjustable. I mistakenly said it's fully adjustable.

I played last night and you can't adjust the hp or weight. You also can't adjust the turning angle. So it's a bit more limited than some of the other cars in what you can change.

I also found that if I made the front and rear spoiler on the lowest setting I could hit 220-230 mph on daytona track. I managed a time of 3:25 or so - lapping the other vehicles more than twice.

Yeah, I didn't even realize you won decent money for online races until mysql said something about it. I will have to try that.

Lol, I started out like I was the God of Gran Turismo, sweeping through races on Professional mode but then quickly retreated to Standard mode about 2 races into S-class. I'll go back and attempt later when I get different cars bought...

Yeah, it's pretty hard. The S-2 event was nearly impossible. It took me a handful of days to crack that one. I think I got lucky. The two 700PP races are even harder. I think it'll take me a long time to crack those two on Professional Physics without assists.

Can you pick who you race with? I thought the server just randomly selects your competitors.

Correct, you almost have to send your buddies a message and say that I will be on the Suzuka Expert Class 750. As long you pick that track, 9 out of 10 times you and your buddies will be on the same server. My brother and I do it all the time when we want to race each other. Unless there is a connection failure , you will be on the same race track, class, etc , but you will be bumped to another server with diffrent people. Usually after you complete that race , you could get back on the same server with your buddies.

One thing I like about the Suzuka track , only the die hard enthusiast run that track most of the time, newbies and the racers who are scared of turns will run it once, then they will disconnect. But you will find everybody and there grandmother on the Daytona oval or High Speed ring, were basic skill level and a really fast car will easily gain you a win.

We will all have to try to coordinate something where we can end up in the same event.

I'd be in for an virtual meet up/challange. I've had the game for a while, but I've just now got to the S-class races (GTA4 and Eye of Judgment has been taking up the extra time).

my PSN name is mtrevino78. I haven't done any online races yet, but I'll do some this weekend to prepare... I don't want to be the new a$$hole guy that's trying to avoid bumper racing. and I love the Suzuka circuit, it's very technical and challenging.

Yeah, Suzuka is still always my favorite track - its got the perfect blend of low/high speed curves and long straights.

My GT5P username is the same as here.

FWIW, I think High Speed Ring is not as brainless as Daytona Oval. It's actually quite fun and challenging.

It's especially redonkulous with the Ford GT in the DualShock 3... the second I lift off the gas and do some minor corrective steering I'm flipping around like a tea saucer.

I do agree though, the way to win on the high-speed ring is understanding your car's speed limit, turn-in, and exits on the smaller curves.

Yeah, the Ford GT (stock) is pretty tough to drive. The throttle application needs to be extremely judicious. I also happen to think the modeling for this car isn't very good. On the other hand, the F40, another high output mid-engined car is supremely controllable.

I love taking the Art Morrison '60 Vette to the Daytona Speedway 700 Intermediate Online. It usually slots me in first (unless an F40 is in the race) and this car pulls away from everything for the first complete lap until others start drafting each other to catch up. It is so stiff in the corners and very stable so when the idiots start trying to bump you, the car simply holds it's ground and they usually wreck. You can also hold long drifts at 165mph through the banks which throws up a wall of smoke making difficult for the cars behind you to see whats going on.

Also I was surprised at how quick the Tuned Renault Clio can be. The acceleration when the settings on this car is maxed out is pretty good and doesn't have a problem what-so-ever keeping up with most of the $250k plus tuned cars on most of the tracks if you can feather the throttle out of turns.

Amuse S2000 is still my go-to car though for the more technical tracks

I'm ready for GT5 now but looks like another year. Anyone know if cars/tracks will be added to GT5-P until then? This Prologue game would probably keep me satisfied for that long if they would just add the full Nürburgring Nordschleife to it.

GT5:P will have some updates later this year. Better network racing/party set up will be one of them, and crash modeling will be another.

With the release of FW 2.40 coming pretty soon, I'm fairly sure we might see some trophy support. (http://kotaku.com/5012056/report-in+...for-ps3-is-otw)

In terms of a few additional tracks and cars? It's up in the air, they haven't said anything about it. But maybe they'll throw us a bone for Christmas and give us a few surprises.

~~~~~~~~~
so, within the past couple of weeks since posting last here, I've jumped into online racing and finally racked up $2m credits. My thoughts? the online racing is alright, definitely in the expert levels people are more courteous to passing and bumping (and I try to be as well) despite a few errors. but there still are a few dorks out there that do the ramming and pushing.
either because of my connection (wireless NAT 2), or just the lack of interest in the expert races, most of my races only tend to have 2-3 people racing. Only a few times has it come up with 4, 5 or more people and those races are pretty good and entertaining.
Like Jrichter said, there are some cars that are just extremely good. The tuned Clio V6 is one of them, as well as a few of the Mitsubishi EVOs. To me, I see these cars a lot and I can only think of them as "cheater cars" for lack of a better term. They are great cars, but the people that are driving them are rambunctious and running on walls, into people and just keep coming up and leading races no matter how "bad" they drive.
Also, maybe it's just car comparisons, but sometimes I feel that RX-8s and RX-7s that are supposed to be equally rated to other cars, simply are not equal at all (like when different cars are supposed to be rated at 600points). I know there's a lot to take into account for each car, like weight, tunning etc. But there have been more than a few matches where the car ratings are equal, but a car will beat me with about 10 seconds a lap. Of course, it could just be that I suck driving too. :P
finally, does anyone have any insight to car settings that they would like to share? More specifically, I'm interested to see how people use the aids like traction control, ABS, steering help, etc in the professional physics mode. I'm not a big fan of traction control (and I have it off on standard physics), but I find in the professional physics mode, I have to have it on at a medium setting- and I wonder if it's helping or limiting the car.
michael
