Before my '8, I had an '02 GT Convertible, Mineral Grey. I loved that car. I absolutely know what you mean about driving in the rain! I attributed it to those crappy GoodYear tires. I only had the car for a couple of thousand miles and I had to change them. I then upgraded shocks, springs (lowered it), K-member, sub-frames, throttle-body and plenum (Accufab), LT headers, Bassani X-pipe, MagnaFlow cats-back...I think that's all. Drove like a dream.

I DO NOT plan on spending that kind of money on this car. SShifter, cats-back, K&N drop in filter and MM's AP. (Maybe the BHR IC later), but that's it. The only 'real' gains is FI and I'm over the 'I have more than you' crowd. I'm just enjoying my car now.

Where I live... truck, redneck country; there are some lifted trucks and probably a few with some mods. Some trucks are nicely done, some are tacky, some... actually a few of the drivers are ***** while some are nice, not that I know them, but just by their driving habits. And I think that is what angers people most about truck drivers. They are inconsiderate, bully, arrogant drivers who would drive over their mom's car/truck if they thought she was going too slow. Furthermore, I don't think they think of the consequences of what can happen if they tail-gate/drive erractically/bully smaller vehicles on the road. They might be invincible (for the most part) in their big lifted truck, but the baby in the back seat of the little compact car isn't. Anyways, that's my opinion on trucks.

But yeah, trucks have the potential to be fast, to each their own I guess when it comes to this thread.

No replacement for displacement as they say (maybe except for efficiency).

I have to kind of agree with MyRXdrug about the attitudes some people have. It's an overgeneralization to say ALL such trucks are driven by jerks, but it seems to me that the larger someone's vehicle is, the more they have a tendency to drive as if there are no consequences, seemingly unaware of the potential damage they will cause to someone else should things go wrong.

Don't get me wrong, a bad driver in ANY vehicle is bad news bears, but I'd much rather have a run-in with a 3000 pound wrecking about as opposed to a 6000 pound one.

I also feel like the most often underappreciated feature of a car is the brakes, and the most overrated is the acceleration and speed. It doesn't matter how fast you are if you can't stop in time. Which goes back to monster truck drivers who barrel down snowy roads like it's a sunny summer day. Few things give me greater guilty pleasure than seeing a big ol' truck or SUV in a snowy ditch (provided it isn't a serious accident with injuries).

Good luck beating a GT500 off the line in an 8... 540hp & 510ft-lbs, thats one damn fast car. Does 0-60 in the low 4s

All that torque (even the GT has 320 ft-lbs now) will break the tires loose real easy
Not a feeling you'd be used to if you drive a oh-so-torquey rotary

What about an AWD PowerStroke setup for autocross? You think it could be possible?

I think it would be possible, but even with normal sized wheels/tires, the CoG is just so high that I don't think you could get much out of it.

Heck, even if you slammed it, it'd be so heavy that tossing it back and forth would just be too hard I would think.

I dunno, I'm not an expert, but just thinking about the basic physics of it, it seems like it might be a pretty fruitless endeavor.

Did you see the video I posted? That kind of acceleration is quicker than a vette's.

Rapid acceleration is all well and good, but exit speed > all. I just cannot imagine piecing together a truck like that that could maintain any sort of exit speed. I am sure somewhere there is a slammed S-10 or something that makes gobs of power and could run great on a track, but really, I just don't think an autocross truck is practical, considering how much more work it would take than a car.

^ I think most sanctioned autoX events do not allow trucks or minivans from participating. Just like any mud jumping events will not allow sports cars to participate. Well there are the odd Subarus though.

SCCA allows pickups from what I have seen. I saw a Tacoma at one event that was set up pretty well and turned out some pretty good times.
